Football Transfer Rumours: Who would be capable of replacing Milner at Aston Villa if he leaves for Manchester City
James Milner is as good as gone from Aston Villa and on the verge of being a Manchester City player. When the player does make the move, there will be an empty void in the Villa midfield. Martin O’Neil will obviously inherit a good sum for the sale of the player, which means he would be looking to immediately spend that money to find a suitable replacement; here is a look at some of the players that he could sign.
Shaun Wright Phillips would be the most obvious choice to replace Milner. He has been out of favour at City and with Milner going that way, the team would be looking to maybe add Phillips as part of the money plus player deal. Phillips has had a lot of experience playing with the likes of Chelsea and is a natural winger, which means he would easily be able to adapt to the position that Milner plays in at Villa.
Jonas Gutierrez could very likely also be the ideal man for the job of replacing Milner. He is a good utility player, who can play anywhere in the midfield and can even play as a right back if required. He has played in the La Liga and is currently employed with Newcastle. Newcastle have just added Dan Gosling to their roster, which would mean that, Gutierrez would be dropped down the pecking order at the club. This would be the ideal time for Villa to make a move for the player, since if he is being offered more first team football; he would not hesitate to make the move.
Lee Chung Yong has been phenomenal all season long with Bolton. He played a total of forty games for the team and managed to score five goals along with eight assists. Those statistics may not be able to tell you much about the player, but every Aston Villa fan would be jumping off the edge of their seats if they were to find out the Yong was going to be playing at Villa Park next season. Yong provides pace, flair and intricate trickery down the wing. He has also had an outstanding run in at the World Cup with Korea, which has resulted in his market value soar to around ten million pounds. Considering Aston Villa would have the money to buy the player, they should probably make the move sooner rather than later, because if they wait too long someone else might just sign him.
Park Ji Sung is an outstanding utility player, who has very few or no weaknesses what so ever. It isn’t surprising that he is pondering a move out of United due to the lack of good first team football. United have a number of winger including, Giggs, Nani, Valenica and Obertan, they clearly wouldn’t miss Park, if he was to leave this summer. Park however could prove very valuable to the Villa midfield with his outstanding stamina and determination and he might just be able to provide the cutting edge that the team has been lacking for so long. He would also be available for a fee of around seven or eight million pounds, which would make him a bargain buy and probably one of the best transfers in Villa’s history.
Aston Villa have numerous other options as well in front of them but, they can’t really act on them till Milner officially signs for City. Now it’s just a matter of waiting and seeing what Milner does next, so Aston Villa can materialize on his transfer.
