Football Transfer Update: EPL News- Fabregas saga ends with the summer
The Barcelona technical director Andoni Zubizarreta has declared that it was impossible to sign in Spanish star, Cecs Fabregas from Arsenal this summer.
He stated that the reason for this was the Gunners lack of commitment and interest towards the deal. He also admitted that it was because of the low price offered by Catalans North Londoners manager Arsene Wenger failed to commit to the deal.
The La Liga Champions Barcelona have tried all summer to sign in the world class midfielder but have failed to do so and that is not because of commitment by the prodigal player Fabregas but by the Arsenal side as they certainly don’t want him leaving the club.
Fabregas originally started his football career from Barcelona, as he was enrolled in their youth programme. He was a prominent member of their youth team but when the time came for him to start his career professionally, he realized that he was being constantly overshadowed by the star studded Barcelona squad and especially from players like Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta.
It was then that the 16 year old Fabregas decided that it was time to make a move if he wanted to prosper and establish himself as a good player. Fabregas announced that he was available for services and soon enough the player was bought by the French man Arsene Wenger to Arsenal.
Fabregas was signed in 2003 in the London based football and at that time, he was just 16 years old. Soon after Fabregas’ signing, Arsenal football club saw it best time in age, as they performed so beautifully that they eventually were hailed as the Invincible.
It was a golden era for the club as they enjoyed many victories and constantly dominated in the English Premier League. From England, Arsenal went onto Europe and dominated there too.
However, this era was then lost as legendary players from Gunners went away and the performance of the club came a notch down. No one could have imagined that the departure of Thierry Henry and Patrick Vierra, two of the club’s most decorated players, one known for his scoring ability and the other known for his assisting ability, could affect the club so much.
Since then the number of old squad members and the world class players in the first line up have decreased. Fabregas is one of the few stars remaining from the original golden era squad and therefore it would be very hard for Wenger to part from him.
Last summer was the first time that Barcelona approached Fabregas for a possible transfer and the player was interested immediately. Afterwards he stated that he wanted to win trophies and if that was not going to happen with Arsenal, he would have to change his club.
Wenger did not react well to this news and though Fabregas was still at North London, he had a serious chat with him. It eventually became clear that Fabregas would be staying with the Gunners for the 2009-10 season.
He also performed brilliantly; with appearing in 36 matches and scoring 19 goals as well as assisting 19 goals. His brilliant performance was the reason that Arsenal finished 3rd last season in the English Premier League and therefore qualified for the Champions League.
Arsenal had a superb chance to win the EPL title last season but they faced some bad luck as their star players got injured and of course, the arrival of dark November is never good news.
Poor goal keeping was another reason because of which the Arsenal performed poorly last season. The club lost a total of 20 points because of this reason and these mistakes not been made they would have easily finished on top of the table and won the title.
