Football Transfer Update: EPL- Story of Real Madrid’s Rafael Van der Vaart transfer to Tottenham Hotspurs (Part 2)
Jose Mourinho, the new coach of the Spanish club, Real Madrid, is up for bringing the club in to a new era of success. He has brought major changes already with big and controversial signings. Last season the club came 2nd to Barcelona that have been dominating La Liga for some time now.
In the two years spent by Van der Vaart at Real Madrid, he appeared in 58 fixtures for them and scored 11 goals. His performance at the club has no doubt been disappointing and that is another reason why the Dutch player wants to transfer and come to the English League.
At the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Van der Vaart was part of the world cup finalist squad. Netherlands gave an astounding performance in the tournament and knocked off major teams like Brazil towards their march to achieve the World Cup glory but they dominance came to an end in the final when they faced Spain and were defeated 1-0.
Van der Vaart gave a pretty good performance in the World Cup. He has acquired 83 caps for Netherlands and scored 16 goals in them.
The Premier League said in a statement: "The Premier League can confirm the transfer of Rafael van der Vaart's registration from Real Madrid to Tottenham Hotspur.''
Experts are considering this late signing from Tottenham to bring major shifts in tides this season. Critics are even lambasting against English Premier League for letting the organization sign in this late entry.
Officials from Premier League are confident over their decision and have stated on the issue, “We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of Rafael Van der Vaart.”
At just the age of 27, Van der Vaart has won many trophies, awards and gained many achievements. He has won various league titles and personal awards while playing for clubs.
The officials also praised him stating, “He has since represented the Netherlands at two European Championships and two World Cups, including this summer's tournament in South Africa, where he featured five times in the side's run to the final.”
Apart from Tottenham’s bid, there have been other clubs that have made bids for the Dutch player. There was a rumour that the Germany’s top club Bayern Munich was interested in buying the player however, those rumours were short lived.
It was speculated that and stated by Tottenham Hotspurs manager, Harry Redknapp that the Madrid player Van der Vaart was presented by an offer of 21 million pounds from Bayern Munich.
Officials from Bernabeu have denied that Redknapp’s claims that there was any such bid represented by Bayern. Van der Vaart on the other hand is keeping himself distant from these news and has just stated that he is happy to play for Tottenham.
While talking to media he stated, “Four years at Spurs, for €11 million, I can hardly believe it myself. It's a pity I cannot now play against Ajax in the Champions League but I will get to face FC Twente.”
Van der Vaart also stated that he was surprised by the offer from Tottenham and didn’t entirely anticipate the pace at which the deal was closed, “The interest from Tottenham came very quick and I did not have much time to think. But I want to play football again and if possible every week, with a beautiful club. I 'm totally happy.”
Van der Vaart has already played in major Leagues in the world and those include leagues in Netherlands, Germany and Spain. He stated that he is now looking to unfold a new chapter in his life, and that is in England.
He stated, “I am excited about playing in England. Whether it suits my style remains to be seen, but I think a good footballer can adapt and I am very proud of this transfer.”
