Football Transfer Update: Fergie Spends £7.4 million on some unknown youngster, whereas Liverpool upbeat after Cole’s inclusion
In order to strengthen his squad, Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly spent £7.4 million on some youngster. After failing to win major titles last season with the exception of Carling Cup, Ferguson is determined to strengthen his squad by bringing some new talents. With the injuries of Anderson and Hargreaves preventing them from joining the Red Devils on the field, its astute thinking on Ferguson’s behalf to bring new players at Old Trafford.
Earlier, Manchester United Boss, Sir Alex Ferguson added likes of Chris Smalling and Xavier Hernandez to already talented list of players at Old Trafford. However, his latest signing has somehow resemblance to managerial style of Arsene Wenger. Arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger is famous for signing obscure names before grooming them under his supervision at Emirates. Following Wenger’s footsteps, Ferguson has also signed Portuguese youngster for a striking £7.4 million.
Reportedly, the latest signing is known as Bebe - full name Tiago Manuel Dias Correia and plays as striker in Portuguese lower league. 17 year-old Tiago Manuel Dias Correia is currently homeless, as he was raised in orphanage after spending major part of his childhood on the streets and even represented Portugal in the homeless World Cup. Additionally, it is also very shocking to know that just five weeks ago, before he signed for Portuguese Liga outfit Vitoria, he was available on a free transfer after third division side Estrela Amadora failed to pay his wages.
Meanwhile, Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra has not been able to come out from quagmire created after France’s debacle campaign at 2010 World Cup. Evra was the captain of France in South Africa and was instrumental in instigating players to revolt against the team management after Nicolas Anelka’s spat with coach Raymond Domenech was leaked to the media. Consequently, the whole team was axed by new coach Laurent Blanc. Evra has also received scathing criticism from former players. Recently, he was under attack from 1998 World Cup winner and former Juventus player Lilian Thuram. He urged Les Bleus to exile their captain for his negative role in national side’s debacle campaign.
After Thuram’s attack, it seems that Evra ran out of patience and counter-attacked Thuram. Responding to Thuram, Patrice Evra said, “I called him to ask for an explanation. He didn't respond. What we did in South Africa was serious. He sullied my name without knowing what happened. Lilian thinks he's the new coach, president of the FFF and president of France.” He further added, “He said that Les Bleus are contributing to increasing racism. It is time that Lilian stops playing a role that isn't his to play. Walking around with books on slavery in glasses and a hat does not turn you into Malcolm X.”
France’s football is currently in dilemma as the new squad selected by Blanc failed to make any impression in the friendly against Norway, as they lost the match 2-1. Blanc will have to come with new strategy if he wants to save Les Bleus from dismal Euro campaign.
On the other hand, Liverpool is happy to add talent of Joe Cole to their squad. These views were expressed by none other than Liverpool’s captain Steven Gerrard. He compared former Chelsea player to FIFA World Player of the Year Lionel Messi and even reckoned that he is better than the Argentinean.
Commenting on Liverpool’s latest signing, Steven Gerrard said, “Messi can do some amazing things, but anything he can do Joe can do as well, if not better. He used to shock us in training by doing footy tricks with a golf ball that most players can't even do with a football. I really fancy Joe for the [player of the year] award this season.” It seems that Steven Gerrard has yet to recover from the shock caused by England’s shameful exit from the World Cup 2010 or otherwise he would have not made such preposterous comparison.
