Football Transfer Update: La Liga- Atletico Madrid Diego Forlan dismisses his move to Inter Milan
Diego Forlan has finally confirmed that he won’t be making a switch this season from his Spanish club Atletico Madrid. There were rumours that Forlan was involved in a transfer move from Madrid to the Italian club Inter Milan.
In a press conference, the world class striker stated that though there was some development in switch over process but it’s not happening now. He confirmed that he would in fact be staying with the Los Rojiblancos.
Earlier in the summer, Forlan had hinted that he might be making a move to Inter Milan. He announced that when he stated that he would be honoured and privileged if he had the chance of playing for a club like Nerazzurri.
However, there was very little response from the San Siro club to this claim and after some talk, the matter was left aside. Now that the transfer window is about to close on 31st August, there was very little chance of the deal happening, as Inter Milan had already concluded earlier they had made the changes they were going to make this season and there would be a very low chance of making anymore now.
Talking to the media, the Uruguay international contradicted his earlier statements by saying, “They were just rumours. I didn’t receive any offer. I’m not moving anyway. I have three years on my contract and I’m happy.”
It is however true that the whole incident of the transfer started amidst rumours and then it just grew on like a big rolling ball of snow that engulfed all stray debris near it. That is exactly what happened in his case, though he had praised the club and mentioned that he would like to play for them but he never had really wanted or made his mind up about the transfer.
The 31 year old Uruguay star that captained the Celeste to 4th position in the FIFA 2010 World Cup was given the Golden Ball, as the best player at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Forlan will face the Champions League victors under Jose Mourinho rule next week on Friday, when they fight over the European Super Cup.
On the issue, the Villareal and Manchester United player expressed, “It will be a complex tie, champions against a work in progress. However, the fact that it is a final reduces the differences between the teams. One situation, one shot with this ball that has a mind of its own and you just never know.”
After the World Cup, the fame and demand of Forlan took another step. He also led his team to win the Europa Cup last season. For Madrid Atletico he has scored 66 goals in 102 matches and often been hailed as the 11th hour Samaritan for is ability to strike goals when his team desperately need them.
He has performed at a good average all his career and that is why he is valued so much. He is also has the ability to play from both feet and that gives a great advantage, as then the player can play on any side of the field.
