Football Transfer Update: Manchester City needs caution over the lavish Sheikh Mansour’s funding, with 80 Million already spent- more signings are in the pipeline
The Tottenham Hotspurs manager Harry Redknapp has high chances of facing disappointment, when he places a bid for the star Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy. The Welsh’s impeccable ability to place the ball between defenders and the goals post has impressed many in the world and has brought the star out in new light.
Many other teams are also bidding for the 31 year old forward, Cardiff born, as he continues to impress everyone by his top form. However, there is a very low chance of the Eastlands sending off their prized possession which they are only willing to depart from because they have too many strikers in their squad.
With their wealthy budget mainly because of the courtesy from their rich Arab owner Sheikh Mansour, the team is able to spend millions. So far, they have spent a bit over 80 million pounds and they are not stopping, in fact, they have said that they are planning to sign in some more players.
They have lined up players like David Silva, Jerome Boateng, Yaya Toure, and Aleksandr Koralov and with an already threatening line up of players like Emmanuel Adebayor, Carlos Tevez and Patrick Evra, they are included in the list that might take the English Premier League title.
Many experts are predicting that Manchester City might turn out to be one of the major footballing powers in the world. Their previous manager Mark Hughes has stated that he did the best he could with the club and if he had the kind of opportunity the 45 year old Italian manager has, he would have made the club’s name shine in history.
He was sacked two years back, even though under the resources he had, he made the club perform exceptionally well. Last year the Eastland’s proved that they were a rising power in the English football. They lagged just a point behind the 4th number Tottenham Hotspurs, who were able to accomplish the task in the last match.
For Manchester City it was an extremely close campaign, which could result in them playing the Champions League. However, they must be wary of the problems that other clubs have faced in position like them.
For instance, take Chelsea’s example the club has no shortage of financial sources mainly because of their wealthy Russian owner, Roman Abrahimovich. However, the EPL winners of 2009-10 are facing difficulties this year. They have spent a lot of money on their players; so much that their earning per year is far lower than the amount, they have spent. For that reason, the Champions League board had warned the team to be careful of their boundaries, as their lack of attention towards having a proper team could lead to their expulsion for the tournament.
Another problem that the Chelsea board is facing is that the team is having problems in adding home bred players in their squad. The FA rule states that a squad needs to have at least 6 homebred players included. Chelsea so far have just two and therefore they need to make some major adjustments.
The Eastland’s have got to be careful not to fall in to such a fate, as that would mean having a good team on the short run but a downfall of talent and team in the long run. Manchester City has got to resolve their transfer issue and do it fast, the last date of August approaches fast.
They would mainly have to get rid of their players like Bellamy, who has attracted a lot of interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Celtic. The Welsh striker has been on the no.1 spot for both teams, as they look for a good winger with qualities of a centre forward.
It is most likely that Celtic’s Neil Lennon would get the preference over Hotspur’s Harry Redknapp and the reason for that would be the fierce rivalry between the clubs, especially after the last season, when just a point separated them with the chance of playing in the Champions League. White Hart Lane will in the end have to look elsewhere for what they desire. There are also rumours Fulham’s new manager Mark Hughes wants Bellamy to play for him but there is more to come from them yet.
