Football Transfer Update: Manchester United to offer Vidic a new Contract, Welbeck to be sent on loan to Sunderland
One person that Alex Ferguson does not want to leave at all is the Serbian Central Defender Nemenja Vidic but Real Madrid are h**l bent upon taking the star defender to Barnabeau and are preparing a bid in a region of 20 million pounds.
Manchester United signed Vidic in January 2005 from Spartak Moscow for a fee of 7 million pounds when they beat stiff competition from AFC Fiorentina. Manchester United had been interested in the defender for almost two years before that and it could have been a tug of war between the clubs for the defender’s signature but Fiorentina did not have any non-EU spots on their roster and Manchester United took full advantage of the situation.
Since signing on for United Vidic has formed one of the most formidable centre back partnerships in the world with Rio Ferdinand and the injury to him and Rio last season was cited as one of the major reasons that United failed to defend their title successfully.
Manchester United knows how important Vidic is for their team and will go to any lengths to keep the defender at Old Trafford. In recent weeks, it had emerged that Vidic’s wife is not happy with the weather in Manchester and does not like the fact that it rains in the city every day of the year. It is the wish of his wife that is forcing Vidic to consider a move away from the wettest city in Europe.
Manchester wants to keep the pivot of their defence at the club and is offering Vidic a contract extension, as well as a pay rise to fend off interest from Madird.
Barcelona also look to be interested in the defender, while there are also reports in interest from the Italian Serie A, making Vidic one of the most in demand centre backs in the world right now.
Vidic is currently earning 70k per week at Manchester United and has two years left on his contract but United are now set to offer another four year contract to the player. Furthermore, they’re also increasing his wages to 90k per week, making him one of the highest earning players at the club, an offer that might be too tempting for the defender to resist.
It has been an unwritten policy at United that they only offer new contract to players who have 2 or less years left on their contract and keeping the interest from around the world in mind, it is high time that united tie the defender in a long term contract.
Another person who has been offered a new contract is the striker Wayne Rooney, who has been offered a new contract that will make him the highest earning player in United’s history, with weekly wages of 130k. United will begin the talks with the player and his agent once he returns from his holidays in Barbados and are confident that a swift agreement will be reached.
In recent weeks, United Boss Sir Alex Ferguson has said that he is very happy with the development of youth at the club and does not think that he needs to buy new players in order to mount a challenge for the title next season. However, he has said that in order for his youngsters to gain more first team experience he may send the likes of Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverly out on loan to other premier league clubs.
Welbeck is wanted by Sunderland manager Steve Bruce but Alex Ferguson will make sure that he talks to Steve before sending the player, as Danny could only play 8 games last season when he was loaned to Preston North End.
