Football Transfer Update: Spanish star striker David Villa still believes Fernando Torres should make a transfer form Liverpool
Once again, the Barcelona forward David Villa has emphasized that the Liverpool striker Fernando Torres should make a move to the Chelsea football club. He has even stated that this would be the last chance of the Spanish striker to make a move from the Reds to the Blues and save his future.
He stated that he firstly regretted that the world class striker could not make it to the Barcelona team. Earlier in the summers before the FIFA 2010 World Cup had started, the world class striker was high in demand at Nou Camp but all that interest evaporated with the World Cup ending.
The Spanish star gave a lethargic and seemed disconnected in the whole tournament. He got himself demoted from the first line up to the second and then failed even there. In the final moments of the final against Netherlands, he tore his thigh muscles and was out for 3 weeks.
Torres eluded the whole world during the summers. It was rumoured that he would enter the ranks of Real Madrid at Bernabeu and then came along Barcelona claiming their right on the Spanish player. At one point, even Inter Milan and AC Milan were interested in the signing but the World Cup in South Africa destroyed all those prospects.
The only teams that were left bidding for him like a mother who keeps a blind eye on their child’s sins were the English clubs; Manchester City and Chelsea. Even before the summers, they had showed interest in signing the player but Anfield had been unresponsive to their requests and later emphatically stating in a press conference that the player was going nowhere.
However, the World Cup changed all that and soon enough the spark from Stamford Bridge and Eastlands diminished. However, the hype of the summer signings caused it to erupt all again and the new manager of Liverpool Roy Hodgson was placed in a very difficult position.
The former 63 year old Fulham manger gave El Nino a deadline before he wanted an answer but didn’t get them, so he went to Spain in search of it, where the World Cup winning player was enjoying his vacations.
Soon after the English manager revealed that, the coveted striker had a “beef” with the club and not with and that was the reason he would not return to Anfield. Just about 24 hours later shocking news came in from the same man who had earlier uttered news about Torres not returning.
This time he informed that the coveted striker had confirmed he would be staying at Anfield in the coming season. Later in a press conference, Torres himself confirmed his statements. Earlier in the season the price of Torres had reached astonishing heights, Manchester City had told they were willing to pay 60 million pounds for and Chelsea had even exceeded that with a 70 million pounds bid.
The Spanish star forward that played a major part in belaying La Furia Roja to the World Cup glory with 5 goal in 7 matches expressed he wished Torres would have made the switch. Villa, who moved from Valencia to the Nou Camp before the World Cup, expected Torres to move on after Liverpool finished a lowly seventh last season and failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Villa expressed that he still believed that Torres did not have a long career at the Merseyside, “I am actually a little surprised. It looks like Nando is staying. After I spoke with him at the World Cup I thought he would sign for Chelsea. I think it must only be that Chelsea did not meet Liverpool's valuation. Because, if they had, I am sure he would have made the move”.
He added, “This is Liverpool's last chance to keep him. They have to prove they are capable of challenging on all fronts this season, otherwise he will be gone. If Liverpool fail to win anything I am sure he will be at Chelsea next summer.”
