Football Transfer Update: Tottenham Hotspur boss, Harry Redknapp shopping for players
Harry Redknapp, the manager from Tottenham Hotspurs, has also hinted that he may as well look into Manchester City in his bids to further improve Tottenham’s squad, without spending a lot. He has also been trying to play down talks of a move for Stephen Ireland.
Redknapp has been circumvented a lot in his hunt for some decent transfers; Joe Cole has been opting to join West Ham and Liverpool and has rejected an offer for Scott Parker.
The Spurs manager is still looking to bring in extra reinforcements but he still does not necessarily believe that he will have to splash a lot of cash to achieve that.
Though he still doubts whether the Spurs would be able to afford Ireland, who has now been linked to a move to White Hart Lane from Manchester City.
The manager still believes that the Eastland’s could be a place to shop for some really good bargains, which he should definitely not over look before the transfer deadlines are up.
Manchester City needs to cut down their squad to get down to at least 25 before the start of September and would most probably have to loan out a number of players.
Redknapp actually commented in an interview that he needs a few fresh faces in his squad, who would have to make a difference.
He went on to say that, he had hoped that Joe Cole would have come to walk through the door with them, to give everyone a lift at the start of the game, also throughout the match but sadly he didn’t though. He still thinks that he can manage to find faces that he is able to afford and they may as well be from Manchester City.
Redknapp reckons that there are a few people that he will manage to bag without spending a lot of money on them, though he did say that there will be a lot of loans, as the teams are going to do that just to keep people off the wages bill.
Manchester City are actually looking like they would have to do that too, with a few of their squad members, as they have a lot of people in their squad.
He said that Stephen Ireland costs way too much but he still likes him though, he thinks there’s no way that he will go for anything under eleven to twelve million pounds.
Redknap said that they would definitely not be able to spend that much money on him, so that is going to be a problem.
Also with thinking over his transfer with his key defender which is, Ledley King as there is a major dilemma over his fitness.
Ledley King is actually struggling with his recent knee injury, that is looking as a major problem and a hassle, Redknapp does not want to take any risks with him.
Redknapp has admitted that he may as well have to leave Ledley out of the Premier League opening match against Manchester City and make sure that he gets ready for the first leg for the UEFA Champions League qualifier match, which is only a few days later.
Redknapp explained that the start of the season is going to be a problem because of King, as he can only play him on the League or in the Europe.
Right now Jonathan Woodgate is really trying hard and Kings Knee isn’t great either, so Redknapp needs to be very careful.
Harry said that the Champions League qualifier match is a massive thing for them, they have worked hard for it and they really want to get into the group stages. If they fail to do that, then all the work they have put in the last season would all just go to waste.
He finished the talks by saying that if King is fit to play, then he will save him for that, as the qualifying matches are the biggest games for them to play thus far.
