Football Transfer Update: Wenger Wants to Stay with Arsenal and Mcgeady Is ready for a Move
Arsene Wenger, Arsenal’s current boss is looking for an extension on his contract, the sixty one year old Frenchman has been at the head since 1996, and has only a year left in his existing contract at the Emirates Stadium.
Wenger has commented on the matter saying that he has no plans of going anywhere else, before retiring at the age of sixty five and hopes for at least a four year extension on his contract. He said that he is at a stage, where if he does extend his contract then he will have the choice of retiring at a club level and from Arsenal.
He said that he has been offered many challenges and if he does under take another one, then it has to be now but he has no desire of going anywhere else and wants to remain with Arsenal.
When asked on the subject of stepping down due to the pressures of club management at the age of sixty five, he replied by saying that he does not see his enthusiasm going out any time soon. Even though, he does not necessarily have the same physical resistance as Alex Ferguson, he will definitely move down to another job unless he feels the same way he feels right now.
For the time being Cesc Fabregas is staying at with Arsenal, as Barcelona resisted from paying the amount of cash wanted by the club. Even after Fabregas made it very clear that, he wanted to leave Arsenal and go back to Barcelona.
Wenger said that the club’s strong financial position has allowed them to keep their star player and this shouts out for Arsenals financial management who have even handed Wenger a 50 million pound extra budget to making signings this year.
Wenger did admit that Cesc Fabregas was torn with the decision of Arsenal keeping him another season but throughout the process, Cesc has been respectful with the club and has shown a lot of affection for it.
He continued on the matter by saying that we can say “No” to any other clubs’ demanding Fabregas, as the club is very stable financially and in the case that they were in a large debt ,then they would not have been able to hold on to their star player.
In other news Neil Lennon, the Celtic manager is letting one of his most prized player, Aiden Mcgeady go. Mcgeady is headed to Spartak Moscow. Neil Lennon has spoke to Mcgeady on his visit to Moscow and believes that he is getting nine and a half million pounds for the move.
The Celtics lost the final pre-season game against Blackburn with a score of 2-1, when playing at home and without Mcgeady. Lennon thinks that the deal could be finalized within forty eight hours.
Mcgeady told the media that, he has already waved his goodbyes to everyone and is heading to Spartak Moscow to finalize the deal.
Lennon commented on the matter by saying that he would be losing one of his best players and no one wants that but the club feels that it’s good money for a good player and are ready to go ahead with the deal.
Lennon said that he talked to Mcgeady and he seemed happy with all of this and if nothing changes last minute, then Spartak Moscow would be the club he will be moving to.
It is very clear that Aiden wants to play in the Premier League and has been linked to various clubs including Aston Villa, which is currently managed by Mcgeady’s former boss Martin o’ Neil but Lennon doubts that this deal will occur.
Lennon believes that the deal will be finalized over the next few days and it’s not England but it’s a decent club with a decent team and he can really mature and blossom in that environment.
