Football Transfer Update: Wolverhampton Wolves interested in signing former player Joleon Lescott from Manchester City
Rumours are rife that Wolverhampton Wolves are attempting to sign in their ex-players Robbie Keane and Joleon Lescott. Reports have suggested that the signing might even come in the arriving January transfer window.
The Birmingham born defender is a useful asset on the team as he has the capability to play at a number of defending positions. The player however specializes in playing as a centre back and as a left back.
The 28-year-old defender at the moment is having trouble featuring in the first team of Manchester City, just like so many other players on the team have. Eastland’s bought many talented players with the money they had, however when they had to field a team
of eleven they started to have problems as many players were not able to clock time on pitch.
Lescott was a product of Wolverhampton Wolves as he emerged from their youth during years of 1999-2001. Lescott played for the Wolves from 2000-2006 in which he appeared in 212 matches and scored 13 goals.
In 2006, Lescott was signed in by Everton and after 3 seasons, he had acquired 113 fixtures and 14 goals. 2009 came with the player making a transfer as he joined the Citizens. So far, he has capped in 21 matches and scored 2 goals.
This lack of action has made him rethink about his career and now probability is high that the player might be making a transfer. Chelsea was one club that was interested in signing him as they are facing a big crisis in their defensive department as their
regular centre back; Brazilian Alex is injured for the next 4-6 months.
The English international so far hasn’t commented on which team he will be joining if the January transfer window does present him with an opportunity. However, it is expected that if Chelsea presents the player with an opportunity, it will triumph over Wolves’.
However, at Chelsea there is a chance that the player will be used as a benchwarmer rather often so the offer from Wolves will tempt him too. With the probable arrival of Irishman Robbie Keane from Tottenham Hotspurs, the offer would become much more lucrative.
