Football Transfer Updates: January Transfer Window - Good Left Backs in the Transfer Market
A few clubs like Real Madrid, Juventus and Liverpool are short of left-backs and this is due to the fact that good left backs are very rare. Even though Liverpool have signed Fabio Aurelio again; but that was only because they could not find a “good” left-back
for themselves.
At the moment, Chelsea’s left back, Ashley Cole is trying to leave the English club for the Spanish giants, Real Madrid, and their manager, Carlo Ancelloti wants him to stay because he does not have a good replacement for him. Ashley Cole is trying to leave
England because of the big scandals that he has been a part of; including his girlfriend and the things that he quoted about the English fans. We will soon see the departure of the “amazing” Chelsea left back, who has been quoted as “one of the best” left
backs in the world. Below is the list of potential left backs that are in the market and that the teams can sign to make their squad stronger and better to compete in the leagues.
Gael Clichy:
Clichy is a great left back and currently plays for the English club, Arsenal. He is young; as he is only 25 years old and with great pace. His last season with the Gunners was amazing, as they were able to finish third even though they had such a young
squad, with players like him included in the first team. The French player was not a part of the French squad during the FIFA World Cup 2010 because Eric Abidal took his place at the left hand side of the defensive body. With Eric Abidal retiring before the
next FIFA World Cup, Clichy is definitely a player who can easily take his place and work well with the French team. Clichy is currently linked with Juventus, but nothing has happened just yet. With such a player in the market, many teams should look for him,
as he has the potential to do wonders as a left back of any team that he is going to play for.
Royston Drenthe:
Drenthe, the Real Madrid player, is not only a portentous player at the back; he is also good at coming forward and creating goal scoring opportunities. Drenthe has been seen running with the ball quite often, as he has the ability to become a left wing
forward as well. There was a rumour that the Dutch is linked with the English club, Liverpool but he totally denied any such thing and said that he does not want to go to Anfield. His run in the Spanish club has not been too impressive, as he was left on the
bench most of the time. With such a player being wasted in the squad, he would definitely want to leave, and is therefore  a left back who is currently in the market and many clubs can easily take him because he is “amazing” at what he does.
Fabio Coentrao:
The Portuguese left back is one of those players that have been rated very high during the FIFA World Cup 2010. He is currently playing for the Portuguese side Benfica, who impressed many football fans during the Europa cup, which was actually won by Athletico
Madrid. The Portuguese club made amazing players like Angel Di Maria, who is now a part of the Spanish club Real Madrid. With players like Coentrao in your team, you can expect great through balls and long balls, as he has the ability to play long balls to
the forwards of the team. The 22 year old is currently linked with no club but many people know that the Portuguese side wants to sell the player to raise their funds. With Benfica playing in the Champions League this year round, the portentous left back can
rethink and can stay in the club for at least a year more.
