Football Transfer Updates: Javier Mascherano has hearts at Inter Milan & Coach Rafael Benitez
It seems that Javier Mascherano has chosen a manager rather than a club. His never ending praise for the former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez had lead him to the point that he is about to join the present club of Benitez, Inter Milan.
Benitez left Liverpool after the promise made to him by Chairman Martin Broughton and owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett was broken. They told him that if he stayed despite the opposition from players, as they threatened to leave the club, he would be given enough funds that would be able to refurnish his squad but when they time came he was given just 5 million pounds which seemed liked a joke.
When the position as the coach of Inter Milan opened after the departure of Jose Mourinho to Real Madrid, Inter sought him and he left. This also led to the arrival of the Fulham coach Roy Hodgson to Anfield. Hodgson showed an amazing campaign with Fulham despite low resources. He also led the club to the final of Europa Cup.
Now Mascherano, who had great words of praise when Rafa was at the Reds, has said that he will probably end up in Inter with his former boss. Rafa too has told that he will be delighted to have him back with him. Mascherano’s agent Walter Tamer has approved of the notion and relayed that it is a very possible outcome.
Mascherano is on the verge of submitting his transfer request to the Liverpool board. His agent Tamer has told, “It's clear that he likes being wanted by a big club. Last year, European champions Barcelona wanted him. This year the latest Champions League winners Inter want him. I believe that it's a record, but Mascherano hasn't spoken with Roy Hodgson or with Liverpool”.
Now that the Argentinean captain and midfielder knows that Liverpool is out of Champions League this season, thus like other players in the club, he will go looking for a stronger and much reliable club and one of the best options would of course be Inter, as they won the Champions League title the last time.
He agent stated that playing for Inter was more than just a profession for him, as he had personal affiliations with the club, “For him, Inter's interest has a magic flavour. Think about it, the strongest team in the world is after him, where there are various compatriots who he has got to know playing for Argentina, and they are coached by a manager to whom he is tied by personal affection”.
Tamer said that Inter Milan was a prestigious club that was respected by all big clubs. He said that it was actually a dream of Mascherano to play for Inter but he cannot actually leave Anfield right now, as he is bound to Liverpool and for that to happen, both clubs should be on mutual grounds for the transfer to happen.
Tamer also said that Inter was one of the biggest clubs in the world right now and though Rafa refused offers from top notch clubs like Barcelona, right now the current situation of the club and in respect to the present offers, it would be wise of the board to let Mascherano leave.
Liverpool right now is in massive debts that amount to about 350 million pounds. They are planning to promote more inbred players in spite of acquiring the Serbian Jovanovic. They have made Kenny Dalglish, the Liverpool legend responsible for that matter.
Tamer has informed about the deal saying, “The price of Javier's contract has not been communicated to me. I expect a call because I am the only one authorized to speak about his eventual transfer”.
