Football Update: Ancelotti criticizes the referee and Obertan looking to shine in Vlanecia's absence
It is a tradition with big teams in England that after a loss, manager of the team comes out attacking the match officials. Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger have had a rich history of doing that. So how can the
boss of Chelsea Carlo Ancelotti be any different?
The defending champions were given a tough time by Manchester City on Saturday and beat them 1-0 to end their unbeaten streak this season. The Italian manager lashed out at the referee after the match and said that Andre Marriner left his whistle at home.
The former AC Milan manager said that the official did nothing to protect his players who were subjected to some dangerous tackles against Manchester City. Ancelotti said that his team is not afraid to take the physical approach but the way City played,
it was clear that the home side had planned to use rough tackles to unsettle Chelsea. He added that it was clearly not the way to go, and the referee should have done better to control the game.
The Chelsea boss said: "It was a physical game.”
"One player against another player is not dangerous but there were times when one of my players suffered three fouls at the same time.”
'When that happens he has to whistle. He couldn't whistle because he had left his whistle at home.”
Manchester City boss, Roberto Mancini who was a close rival of Ancelotti back in Italy had said that Chelsea would end up winning the league by a big margin. The comments came before the match and even after the win against the blues; Mancini maintained
his stance and said that Chelsea would still win the league.
While Nigel De Jong the City Midfielder believes that comments made by his manager were nothing but pure mind games. He added that Mancini said those things to take pressure off his players and it actually worked,
De Jong said: "He hasn't put that message across to us.”
"Maybe it is to take the pressure off. We're surprised he said that," the World Cup finalist added.
Meanwhile over in Manchester, as United midfielder Antonio Valencia recovers from a leg injury, the on the fringe French midfielder Gabriel Obertan believes that he can fill the void in the team left by Valencia.
Obertan had been injured in pre season and has recently resumed full training. He said that this may be just the right time and opportunity for him to make his mark in the united team.
While taking to ManUtd.com Obertan said that it is never good to have a player like Valencia injured, but for players like him it is an opportunity to prove their worth.
Obertan said: "It is sad for Antonio, and he will have our full-support while he is injured.”
"However, it also gives us players in the same position as him a chance to make an impact in the first-team.
"I hope that this applies for me as well, and I will just have to do the best I can if I am called upon.”
"The tide can turn very fast. At the moment, though, I am just glad to be back playing, and my greatest wish is to make an impact here at Manchester United", he said.
The French midfielder also stated the importance of having the opportunity having an opportunity of playing alongside legends like Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs. He said that such players are an inspiration to others; it is hard to believe that after almost
2 decades they have the same amount dedication and determination to play for United. He said that for the last year or so that he has spent at the club has helped him gain a lot of experience from the old pros.
"Training with players like Giggs, Scholes and the other superstars who are in the squad has also helped me improve on all aspects of my game," Obertan added.
"I need to keep improving, get even better and get as much first-team experience as possible."
