Football Update: Argentinean Manager, Batista’s Calls Back Former Members that were axed by Maradona for the National Side
Sergio Batista, the Argentinean manager announced the National team is going to face the Spanish in Buenos Aires in early September. He also called back a lot of players that had been termed unnecessary and let go by Diego Maradona.
When Carlos Bilardo, the general manager made the list for the team to go against Ireland, Bilardo added a few names that Maradona had discarded. Most of these players were very excited to be back in the national team and to further add to their international careers.
The two major inclusions from Inter Milan are Esteban Cambiasso and Javier Zanetti, this duo has played for Argentina for a record number of one hundred and thirty six times. They were also a part of the 2010 World Cup and participated in almost every match before being kicked off by Maradona in the last two qualifying matches against Uruguay and Peru.
Rumours surfaced during the World Cup that Maradona would call El Pupi, though he was missed out as the Argentinean boss went in the favour of Ariel Garce, who is a defender from Colon.
Cambiasso was not given much importance in the World Cup; he played fifteen minutes in a friendly against Spain in 2009. Even though Cambiasso played for Inter Milan and won the Champions league. Maradona commented on his matter by saying that he did not like the player’s style of play.
Another player recruited back into the national team from Inter Brazil is Andrés D’Alessandro, he also recently won the Copa Libertadores and shortly after that heard the news of being offered to come back to the national team.
Andrés D’Alessandro is a very gifted playmaker; he won the Olympic Gold Medal in Athens in 2004. He has won three League titles, however, he never settled in Europe and now is known as one of the best players in Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian Championships. Now with a call back to the national team, he can add to his twenty six caps and further improve his international career.
Gabriel Milito is Barcelona’s defender and he is also back on the national squad. He missed out last year even though Lionel Messi put in his best efforts to persuade Maradona to include him in the team.
The local kid in the team, is the goal keeper Agustín Marchesín, he was under Batistta when he was coaching for the under twenty side.
Obviously there are some names of the big stars that were in the national team before and still are now and these include first of all obviously there is Lionel Messi then Gonzalo Higuain and Carlos Tevez.
Javier Pastore did not make the list for the national team and it is speculated that this is punishment for turning down Batista and not playing in the under twenty side in 2009 for the South American Championships.
The complete List of the team goes in the order:
