Football Update: Arsenal, Aston Villa and Birmingham City (Review of the News)
ARSENAL
The young skipper of Arsenal, Cesc Fabregas, is confident that his side will remain among the frontrunners as all of their fellow title chasers have to play them at Emirates Stadium in the second half of the season.
Arsenal have already made three tough trips away from home to the likes of Chelsea and both Manchester outfits.
The talismanic skipper of Arsenal said: "We have already played all the games against the rest of the top four sides away from home. They have all got to come to the Emirates and we know that we can beat anyone at home. That gives us morale and confidence."
Arsenal will play their next match against fourth placed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 tonight at Emirates Stadium. The Gunners were defeated by the Blues by three goals in the first leg of this match at Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal are currently placed third in English Premier League table with 32 points to their credit out of 17 games.
ASTON VILLA
The talismanic striker of Aston Villa, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marc-Albrighton-c23470 was disappointed as the match against Wigan Athletic fell prey to the severe weather condition in U.K and was called off as a result. The young attacker believed his team-mates were ready to hit the
ground running against Wigan Athletic after the confidence-boosting win over West Bromwich Albion last time out.
He said: "It was a frustrating weekend, definitely. We went down the day before and when you get there you just want to play. It was a big game too because we really wanted to pick up the three points. It's just a shame the game had to be called off.
We will wait until it's rearranged again and then go down and do what we set out to do in the first place. There's a feeling of deflation when you get yourself prepared for a big match and it doesn't happen. We stopped in the hotel and didn't find out until
the morning. We were disappointed. But there's nothing that could have been done."
Aston Villa lost their last match against Tottenham Spurs at Villa Park. The Birmingham outfit is currently placed 15th in the League with 20 points to their credit. Aston Villa will visit Manchester City on Tuesday.
BIRMINGHAM CITY
Birmingham City chairman has insisted that his club will not be inactive in the winter transfer but has claimed that no big signing is expected to be happening in January.
He said: "We are not in a position to spend at this moment. We are looking at the loan situation and if push comes to shove then we will see. I'm hoping to add to the squad, whether it's through loans or permanent transfers, but we're certainly looking
to try and add to the squad. They [the board] know that we do need a little bit of help."
Birmingham’s last match against Everton has been called off due to severe weather conditions. However, the Blues will welcome Manchester United on Tuesday at St Andrew’s Ground.
