Football Update: Arsenal’s new goal keeping options- Shay Given or Joe Hart
The long time king at the Arsenal Football Club, Arsene Wenger has revealed that he is going to make a bid for Manchester City’s star goal keeper Shay Given or the youngster Joe Hart.
The 60 year old French manager has had talks with the Manchester City board and will hopefully walk away with either of the keepers. He told that he had to solve the age old problem of Arsenal’s goal keeping troubles.
When they got Manuel Almunia, he certainly performed for them meticulously in the beginning but all that changed and in spite of that, he was handed captaincy at times. Wenger said that the time to plug the holes in the wall to solve the problem was gone. It was time to bring down the old wall and build a new one in its place.
With an aggressive theory like that he is sure to win one of them over. Reports have it that Wenger is sitting on a treasure chest of around 30 to 50 million pounds, that has been handed to him as a present for his good behaviour. He has managed to stabilize Arsenal’s performance and has brought them at the 3rd position in the English Premier League.
It has been seen that in the last season, Arsenal’s performance was greatly marred by the lack of a good goalkeeper, when they constantly succumbed to poor goals. Wenger aspired that it is time to change his club and overcome the under achievements they have made. Arsenal hasn’t won any silverware for their trophy case since 2005 when they won the FA Cup.
Wenger expressed that when he gets to have either Hart or Given from the club, the transformation of his club would be started. He has already introduced forwards and defenders in his new squad and there is massive speculation that they are going to crush Liverpool in their opening match of the season.
Now that there is high probability that the Spanish ace Cesc Fabregas is going to stay with the Gunners this season, they are extremely hopeful of winning the title this season.
For now, the training sessions for Manchester City are going strong with their training sessions and Shay Given has been a regular part of that.
Manchester City are currently in a position in which they will either have to give up keeper Joe Hart or Shay Given and the reason for that would be that they have signed in a new goal keeper for the number two position, Stuart Taylor. This eventually does lead to the inevitable prospect of the departure of one of the keeper and chances are that Joe Hart will be joining Arsenal before the start of the season.
Sources have revealed that both Hart and Given have told the manager that if either of them are denied the top spot in the line up for the post then they would be joining the Gunners. Gunners will no doubt prefer the more experienced Given to replace Almunia but Wenger won’t be minding the young 23 year old Hart and will definitely try to sign in a long contract with him.
Wenger has been looking for a stable goal keeper for a long time, the renewal of his squad and to bring about a new era like the previous one, when they were hailed as the “Invincible Ones” seems evident to Wenger.
Sources have revealed that Wenger is on the verge of signing the new goal keeper, as he wants the goal keeper to be up and ready before the new season and take part in as much of the pre season training as possible.
One of the first choices of Wenger was the goal keeper from Fulham, Mark Schwarzer, but the club was demanding too much for the 37 year old shot stopper and it seems. The demand was of 4 million pounds and that was too much for the aging goal keeper he reckoned.
