Football Update: Arsene Wenger anxious to keep http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andrei-Arshavin-c5771
The desperation for Arsene Wenger grows as the rumour is spreading about Andrei Arshavin leaving the club. Big package in small packing, Arshavin is strongly linked with Juventus however; Wenger is keen to keep him at the Emirates. Dumping the speculation,
Arsene Wenger cleared his stance and said “we have had no contact." The other side of the coin suggests something else, as Arshavin’s agent Dennis Lachter said
“there's a possibility of Andrei's move to Juventus, but there are two things that can prevent this deal.”
He further elaborated “two things” and said "first, Arsenal can win the Premier League this year. The gold medal of the English league is a dream of any footballer. Second is the financial ability of Juve as Arsenal are demanding no less than $26 million
(£17 million) to release Arshavin.” It is important to state that Arshavin is currently in contract with Arsenal for the next two and half years.
There is no doubt that Arshavin has looked awry throughout the season and his goal drought is making him frustrated. It is not only the player that is getting frustrated but the fans are losing their patience too. In all this drama, Arsene Wenger is clear
in his mind and said "as soon as a player doesn't play fantastically well, he is criticised. We all know that. I am very happy with Arshavin.”
Some people might take Wenger’s statement as a bait to keep the Russian star but Wenger kept on praising the midfielder. He continued saying
"I believe he is a great player - he is going through a period where it is more difficult for him at the moment.” Wenger told more about the player and his desire about Arshavin, he articulated that
“he (Arshavin) works very hard in the training - his attitude is fantastic and I am desperate to keep him.”
Wenger summarised Arshavin problem and said that it is about the lack of confidence and fatigue. Wenger further elaborated that he played almost every single game since the start of the season and has played for his national team as well. Physically he is
a bit less fresh.
Arsenal is due to clash today against West Ham United at Upton Park. The news from the camp is that Andrei Arshavin could be back on the bench for this fixture. Wenger believes
"after a breather of a few games he will come back stronger than ever because he works very hard in training.” Only the time will tell about Arshavin’s future and performance. So far in this season, he has netted few times and assisted few goals. Overall,
he has looked rusty and often seen wandering anonymously on the field.
