Football Update: Ashley Cole aiming for back to back League titles with Chelsea
Chelsea’s defender, Ashley Cole has said that if he is able to win back to back league titles with Chelsea, it would be one of the biggest achievements of his career.
Cole who moved to Chelsea from Arsenal already has 3 league titles to his name, he won the Premier League twice as an Arsenal player and last season won his first title with Chelsea. However, he has not managed to win back to back titles yet and that is
something he really wants to do.
The chance of Cole’s aspirations being fulfilled this season look quite bright, Chelsea have started the new season on a strong note and have notched up 6 wins in 8 games and are sitting pretty on top of the table. Not to forget their remarkable goal difference
this season that has seen them score 6 goals in a match 3 times already this season.
The first 5 games this season for Chelsea were a breeze; the Blues did not drop a single point and scored 23 goals in the process. Their first blip came at the City of Manchester where they lost 1-0. Last week though the champions dropped 2 more points and
now have just a 2 point lead at the top. That is though a little reality check that despite their remarkable start they may not be able to have it all their own way.
Cole said: "I've never won back-to-back titles so I would say it's very hard," Cole told ESPN.
"Chelsea, of course, have done it before and that's what we're aiming to do this season.
"I think every year the teams seem to be getting tougher. I think this year will be the toughest year, and if we do win it I think it will probably be one of the greatest achievements that I've ever done."
Aston Villa held Chelsea to a goalless draw at Villa Park on the weekend, but Ashley Cole said that one draw here and there is expected and a team like Aston Villa at home is never a walk in the park. He added that his team is still well on course to win
the title, and considering how the season has started for Manchester United and Arsenal things are looking good for the champions.
Ashley Cole like any other Chelsea player was put the question of comparing the reign of the special one Jose Mourinho and the current manager Carlo Ancelotti. Cole admitted that yes, the playing style of the 2 is very different, and Chelsea has been playing
with a lot more style and authority compared to the cagey style of Jose Mourinho. Cole said that there is always a down side to scoring too many goals; he added that now fans expect them to score more than 3 or 4 goals every game.
The England international said that in Jose days when Chelsea got a lead of say 2 goals, they would sit back and be content with a win. Whoever under the new regime the instructions are to go and get as many as you can get. The left back said that the whole
team is enjoying the managerial style of Carlo Ancelotti and the results are there for everyone to see.
While reflecting on his future, Cole said that he has just turned 30 and that is when a player starts to wonder how long it will last. The former Arsenal player admitted that the thoughts have also started to come to him from time to time, but for now, he
is focused on the job at hand and winning back to back titles. Cole finished by saying that he is having the best time of his career at Chelsea and would like to end his career at Stamford Bridge and hopefully under Carlo Ancelotti.
