Football Update: Barclays Premier League- Manchester United Win At the Hawthorns
Manchester United had a hard-fought victory against West Bromwich Albion as Javier Hernandez scored the winning goal with 15 minutes on the clock. It was a controversial match with a lot of moments where refereeing was not up to the Premiership standards.
This was the first match of the new year of Barclays Premier League as Manchester United and West Brom went against each other. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 was also on the score sheet for Manchester United, with his first goal from an open play since the March of last
year. However, James Morrison levelled from a great volley after only ten minutes of the opening goal. Also, the hosts had a chance to take a lead but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Odemwingie-c29794 missed a penalty around the hour mark.
Sir Alex Ferguson had made a few changes before coming into this match against West Brom. At the back, Tomasz Kusczak replaced Edwin Van der Saar as the goalkeeper and Gary Neville was brought back in his right-back position. In the absence of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nani-c27299, Gabriel
Obertan was brought in the midfield position. Also, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Owen-c25355 got a rare chance but he was there as a substitute.
The most controversial moment of the match was the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Neville-c14447’s foul on Graham Dorrans. The midfielder made his run into the area and had only the goalkeeper to beat for the second goal for his team. However, the tackle came in from Neville, which was
in no way near the ball, and brought down Dorrans. Chris Foy, the referee, thought that either Dorrans lost his balance or it was a genuine attempt by Neville on the ball. Nevertheless, the penalty was never awarded in a situation where a red card to Neville
should have been given as well.
From the very first whistle of the match, Manchester United started building pressure on the hosts. The opening goal was scored by Wayne Rooney in the third minute and it was supplied by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrice-Evra-c29231. It was Rooney’s first goal from open play since his last
one against Bayern Munich in the first leg of Champions League quarter finals last season.
However, Manchester United failed to maintain the pressure on the hosts despite getting the opening goal. Once again, United presented a poor passing show in the midfield as they gave away possession a lot easily. This helped the hosts to start a comeback
and the equaliser seemed inevitable. In the 14th minute, Morrison shot a great volley and Kusczak had no chance to keep it out of his goal.
There were a lot of disappointing judgements from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Foy and the visitors were also the victims on a couple of occasions. In the second half, Alex Ferguson had to make two changes in order to resist some of the pressure being built by the hosts. Obertan
was replaced by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173 on Jerome Thomas and this time
referee made no mistake in pointing to the spot.
Odemwingie stepped up to take the penalty but it was a poor kick and the grunts of home fans made it pretty clear. After this, there was another patch where United looked threatening as they went forward in search of a winning goal. In the 75th
minute, Wayne Rooney’s cross found Hernandez who headed the ball home to give his team the lead. West Brom did not sit back as they went on to look for the equaliser but in the end Manchester United managed to hold on to a rare win away from home. With this
win, United would retain the top spot on the English Premier League table.
