Football Update: Capello to hire young English Coach, Stuart Price to assist him
England football team’s Italian manager Fabio Capello has decided to hire a young Coach from England to add to his backroom staff alongside Stuart Pierce.
England football association’s development director Sir Trevor Brooking will assist Capello in finding the right man for the job; Brooking will scout with his resources and make his recommendation by the end of this year.
Stuart Pierce, who is already part of Capello’s team, is also in charge of England’s under 21 football team.
The decision to hire a young Englishman to be part of Fabio Capello’s backroom staff came after a meeting of FA board; the meeting took place to look into the dismal world cup campaign of England in the world cup.
The decision is part of FA’s succession planning, Stuart Pierce, currently has a dual role, and he is the manager for England under 21, and also helps Capello with the senior team, as he did in the world cup. England FA is now keen to groom an Englishman, who Capello can take under his wing and train accordingly.
It is also widely believed that even though FA is insisting on enhancing English influence in England backroom staff, but none of the Italian assistant coaches in Capello’s team would be laid off.
FA said that there is no doubt on the competency of Stuart Pierce but he is at times away with the under 21 team, and the Association wants more continuity in the team set up, as well as an Englishman who can delegate between Coach and the team.
There were number of other announcements made after the FA meeting. The Football association said that following the resignation of Lord Triesman in May, they will be looking to appoint a new independent chairman but would make sure the Government also agrees with their choice.
FA insisted that they may evict the clause in their rules that the chairman must have not been involved with a material Business that is directly connected to a football entity.
The Burns report made number of recommendations and having an independent chairman was one of the key recommendation in the report.
The former Chairman of FA lord Triesman, was made to resign after he had been found to have been involved in some foul play regarding England’s bid for the FIFA world cup.
The report on Triesman published in a newspaper claimed that according to Triesman, Spanish FA was looking to bride referees at the 2010 world cup, and sabotage the chances of England having a chance to host world cup 2018. Triesman was made to resign and FA ended up apologising to various football bodies. FIFA however did not take any action on that.
Capello and Brooking apart from selecting a new English coach for England team management, will also be working towards improvement of skills of England coaches.
The duo will make recommendations regarding the international player development and player Education set up. These actions were prompted by the England performance in the world cup where they were able to win just one match.
Fabio Capello was retained as the England manager and will stay on to make sure England make it to the Euro championships in 2012.
The Italian manager said that his focus now will be more on youth, and he will make sure that he just does not focus on the team at hand, but will also take actions to ensure that England’s future is also in good hands.
Capello said there will be a significant change in the England approach when the team plays in a friendly match against Hungary in August.
England’s team had the highest average age in the world cup, Capello said that even though that was not the reason for the disappointing campaign but he will make sure nothing like that happens again.
