Football Update: Carlos Tevez and Roberto Mancini Episode- Who Should Be Blamed For The Heat?
English press reported on Monday that Manchester City’s Captain Carlos Tevez and their manager Roberto Mancini were involved in a heated war of words. However, it was cleared later on that they made up their differences.
Manchester City was playing against Newcastle United, while the first half ended with a 1-1 draw. This result did not please Mancini, who lashed out at his players in anger, in the dressing room. Carlos Tevez, who scored a penalty for City in the first half,
was unhappy with his manager, as he openly spoke his mind. He blamed Mancini for his negative tactics, which have resulted in a lesser number of goals for Manchester City.
Carlos Tevez clearly pointed out to his manager his dislike towards his defensive tactics. Mancini often chooses to play two defensive midfielders, while Carlos Tevez remains a lone operator upfront. Due to this formation, Tevez is left at the mercy of two
wingers, which is often insufficient for the striker. The Argentinean forward believes that he has to work more than the normal levels, while his supply is also limited. Therefore, he felt it necessary to speak out trying to put the blame back on Mancini’s
shoulders. The manager, on the other hand, was unhappy with his players, who were not playing up to his desired standards.
The dressing room debate got ugly when both men indulged in using foul language, blaming each other for the problem. It was also reported that Mancini tried to regain his control as he ordered Tevez to follow his instructions, but the Argentinean did not
give up his stance.
However, there was a turnaround in the second half despite an ugly half-time, as the substitute Adam Johnson came up with an extra-ordinary goal to give his team a much needed victory. This might have brought the level of heat down, as the player and his
manager made up after the match. The victory was very important for Mancini, as his team was placed in second place after these three points.
However, things might change for Manchester City in the future, if Mancini decides to adopt strict measures against Carlos Tevez. If such a thing happens, Manchester City would go into disarray, which would prove problematic as the season would progress.
In addition, this is not the first time that Tevez has been involved in something that goes against Mancini. Previously, Tevez showed his displeasure regarding the sacking of Mark Hughes, while he also complained about the training schedules under Mancini.
Mancini has some time to think about the problem at hand, and the ways to deal with it. The players have left their clubs for international duty, while they would stay out for a week and a half. Previously, there are many examples of players who were totally
sidelined by Mancini because they took a stance against him.
The biggest example is of Shay Given, who has been replaced by Joe Hart. Also, Craig Bellamy is spending the year with Cardiff City because of the tensions between him and his manager. Another casualty is of Emmanuel Adebayor, who is still sitting on sidelines,
waiting for his chance to play for City. All these players have been missing some action for quite some time now, while they are all being punished by Mancini because of their misbehaviour and for being too vocal.
Therefore, chances are heavy that Tevez would get some sort of punishment. It is very important for a manager to establish his control over his team, which means that punishment is a necessity in order to control the rebel type. Such players are always difficult
to manage otherwise, as they have a tendency to corrupt their fellow players.
Tevez is a special case, because apart from being a rebel face, he is also the Captain, which means that he exercises some extra influence in the squad. Maybe, the time has come to give Tevez some rest and give someone else a chance. It would be easy for
Mancini, as he has many world class players at his disposal.
