Football Update: Carlos Tevez confirms his intentions of leaving Manchester City

On Sunday, Manchester City announced that Carlos Tevez had submitted a written transfer request to the club. In their statement, the club also confirmed that the strikers’ request had been rejected. Carlos Tevez has been quick to respond. In a statement
issued yesterday evening, the Argentinean spoke out on his desire to leave the Eastlands club, saying,
"I can confirm I have handed a transfer request to the chairman of Manchester City Football Club”……"But it is something I have felt for some time and have spent many hours thinking this through."
Tevez revealed that he had been contemplating leaving the Blues in the summer, but his long-time advisor, Kia Joorabchian, made him reconsider. In his statement, Tevez went on to dispel rumours about a falling out with his manager, Roberto Mancini. The strikers’
decision seems to be based on family problems back home.
Since arriving from Manchester United, Carlos Tevez has made a significant impact at the Eastlands club, scoring 39 goals in 60 appearances. His consistent performances and penchant for scoring goals have made him a hero among the City faithful.
Manchester City have dubbed the recent episode an ‘unfortunate and unwelcome distraction’. It’s not hard to see why. The club is in the middle of a stellar season, currently lying in second position in the league table with 32 points and establishing themselves
as genuine title contenders. Carlos Tevez has already scored 10 goals this season for the Blues, emphasizing his significance to City’s cause.
If Manchester City were to lose Carlos Tevez, it would be a terrible blow to the clubs’ title aspirations. Emmanuel Adebayor is looking more and more likely to leave in the January transfer window and the maturity of fellow striker Mario Balotelli has come
under question following his childish reaction at being substituted against West Ham.
The Eastlands club is understandably reluctant to let go of Tevez, whose contract expires sometime in 2014. However, the entire affair will almost surely affect the strikers’ performance on the pitch. If an acceptable solution cannot be reached, Tevez could
be forced to consider retirement from football, something he has alluded to in the past.
Whatever happens, one thing is for certain. It’s going to be an interesting week at Manchester City.
