Football Update: Carlos Tevez sparks against United relaying no regrets to come to City
As anticipated, the intensity of rivalry between Manchester City and Manchester United has grown tenfold over the summers. Though the process had started a long time ago, as far as two seasons back but now is the time that one can admit that the two teams can fight each other on a much levelled plane.
The surprise move of Carlos Tevez being transferred to Manchester United is still confounding many. The reason for that was probably Tevez’s insistence of leaving the Red Devils to join the Citizens, rather than because of money or any other prospects, which lead them to negotiate with their arch rivals.
Now Tevez has woken up the wounds at Old Trafford, when he stated that he has no doubts on his decision to leave the Red Devils. He has stated that ever since he left the club, he has been prospering at the Citizens and therefore has no reason to regret about his departure from United.
The former West Ham United player has helped the Red Devils win the English Premier League twice and the UEFA Champions League in the 2 year period he played for them from 2007 to 2009. The Argentinean player who was one of the stars at the World Cup squad selected for the FIFA 2010 World Cup, has produced 19 goals in 63 appearances for Manchester United.
For Manchester City on the other hand, he has acquired 29 goals in just 40 matches, which occurred in the last season of 2009-10. The 26 year old started his career from Boca Juniors and Corinthians, and he performed marvellously for both of them.
The Argentinean star does know how to steam things about, especially after the performance of club switch he gave last season. The Light Blues never got to win a title last season but the Red Devils got their hands on the League Cup, despite losing the race of the English Premier League to Chelsea. It could be seen in the last season that Sir Alex Ferguson hadn’t yet found a replacement for Tevez.
This time however he has desperately been looking forward to sign in young players that can play on the position of Tevez. One such example can be of Javier Hernandez the Mexican prodigy and the other popular striker he was after this year was Inter Milan’s Mario Balotelli, however, he has apparently lost him to Manchester City.
The former coach of Inter Milan, the Italian Roberto Mancini has won the race to obtain his former accomplice the Italian striker nick named “Super Mario”. However, Manchester United was providing him with a higher salary of 65,000 pounds a week but the striker has stated that he wants to join Manchester City with his former manager.
Apparently, the duo has a great understanding; after all, it was Mancini that spotted potential in the youthful player and brought him up. In the Jose Mourinho period at the Inter Milan, there were severe attitude issues in between them and it does seem that Mancini might be among the only persons that can control him. After all the team does have a lot of players that have attitude and ego issue in the past and present. For instance, Manuel Adebayor, Craig Bellamy, Gareth Barry, Tevez and now Balotelli too have been added to the list.
Though the Blues have been able to win anything last season, they indeed look prepared for this season, as the rich owner Sheikh Mansour seems to have opened a river of money into the accounts of City. So that they can get themselves the best players in the world and they certainly seem to be doing that.
Even Sir Alex Ferguson admitted that he had a difficult time in facing Manchester City last season. He has confessed that they have changed from the noisy neighbours to a real headache.
In the upcoming season, Tevez is expected to lead the attack for the Citizens so that they can acquire a first EPL title since 1968. Tevez has relayed that he is very happy for the change and would be honoured if he is able to deliver for Manchester City. He announced, “I’ve never regretted signing for Manchester City. It’s the best decision I have ever made.”
