Football Update: Champions League News- Bayern has to settle for a second place
The defending champions of Bundesliga League, Bayern Munich, may have to settle for second spot in the leagues table. They are on the eighth spot and have to cover a lot of ground to reach the impossible goal of defending their title. Bayern Munich is struggling
hard and has to face a lot of criticism. Having said that, the team members as well as the coach has a positive mindset towards their matches in the future. With more than one third of the season gone and their 14 points difference from the leader’s Dortmund,
it is rather difficult to say if they will be able to defend their title this time.
Bayern’s 1-1 draw with Leverkusen left them on the eighth spot in the Bundesliga rankings. They are currently on 20 points which is proving to be a great worry and shame for a team like Bayern Munich. It is a harsh reality that Bayern has to face this time.
With world class players in Bayern Munich, they still managed to draw their last match. Despite taking a first half lead over their rivals, they could not manage to double their deal. Germany’s striker Mario Gomez scored an absolute screamer in the first
half but his efforts were spoiled when Bayern Munich gave a penalty right at the start of the second half. Leverkusen could not afford to miss such a chance and did what they had to do, level the scores and Bayern had to settle for yet another draw, thought
more like a defeat by many.
Bayern Munich 14 points difference from the leaders Dortmund is a huge blow to the Bayern’s morale. Football is a game of technique and there are no rooms for errors. Bayern’s schoolboy errors have cost them their last game against Leverkusen. Bayern’s team
manager Nerlinger comments in the media clearly define their lack of commitment towards the title. He is of the opinion that the team is now focusing entirely on qualifying for the Champions League and not the title.
Despite the manager’s heart breaking comments for the fan, team coach Louis van Gaal is still positive and hoping that Bayern would be able to manage defend the title somehow. Experts consider such hopes to be unrealistic as no team in the history of Bundesliga
League has managed to close down 14 points to be crowned as champions. However, the league has a lot of games to offer and Bayern Munich might just find them a title saving chance. With their furious offense and set of great players such as Arjen Robben, Bastian
Schweinsteiger and Frank Ribery, Bayern still has a close shot to the title.
The coach Van Gaal is extremely unhappy and unsatisfied with Frank Ribery performance and is criticizing his current form in the team. This has come as a huge disappointment to the Bayern star Ribery, as he returned from an ankle injury. If Van Gaal dreams
of any chance of qualifying for the Champions League, he has to unite the whole team and takes on board his star players such as Frank Ribbery, otherwise the chances of success rate is doubtful.
