Football Update: Champions League News- Real Madrid Overpowers AC Milan 2-0
Real Madrid scored an impressive win over their rivals AC Milan as the Spanish team renewed their ambition of winning the prized Champions League tournament that is the biggest prize in European club football.
For the winners influential playmaker Cristiano Ronaldo scored a goal when he converted a free kick, but that was not his only moment of glory as he succeeded in setting up a goal for Mesut Ozil less than a minute later.
The Spaniards subsequently brushed aside fellow European giants AC Milan 2-0 to push their stakes of winning the Group B in the Champions League for the season 2010-11.
Coached by one of the most sought after coaches of the present era, Jose Mourinho from Portugal, the young Real side exhibited great control and composure as they dominated an ageing and lacklustre Milan team.
The Real stars were at the top of the group with a maximum nine points from three matches and have their sights on the trophy at the end of the season.
"I think that we played well, we deserved to win. Fortunately today was a qualifying match where goals have little meaning because if today were a quarter-final match or semi-final where goals are important, at that time I would not be happy because
it was a game to win four-nil," Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho said.
The winners got off to a promising start; they made rapid inroads in their opponent’s half in the first 10 minutes of the match.
They made the most of their forward thrust as after missing a few easy chances the in-form Ronaldo struck in the 13th minute with a fierce free kick that penetrated through the Milan wall and ended in the goal post.
With the Milan defence, this striker sprinted in from the left wing to feed Ozil on the edge of the penalty area.
The young German who made his mark at the World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 earlier in the year than created an opportunity with his shot that ballooned up off the back of central defender Daniele Bonera and into the net.
Former Inter Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic who has been in sterling form for his club this season had a forgettable match as he could hardly threaten Real's seasoned goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
"Ibra (Zlatan Ibrahimovic) has scored all Milan goals in this Champions League. Two against Auxerre and one against Ajax. Today he has not scored but he has played against Pepe and Carvalho. And Pepe and Carvalho are two players that actually can play
with the eyes closed, which know each other and they also have a coach who has prepared them very well, because he knows Ibra and almost all his moves and the way he plays. But Ibra is top," the former Internazionale Milan coach said.
After the defeat, the Italian team is now level on four points with Ajax Amsterdam. The event has already reached its halfway stage of the group round and Inter are now in danger of missing out on a place in the last 16.
Milan coach, Massimiliano Allegri feels that his team’s performance was not up to the mark and that they need to tighten up if they are to progress in the tournament.
"We should have approached it in a different way. The first quarter of an hour I think it was like the friendly against Barcelona, if I'm right. There we had been able to go ahead; we could have won, not here. I think it's a mistake that should not happen
again," the Italian said.
