Football Update: Chelsea Players Hopeful of a Comeback
Chelsea is going through a terrible crisis at the moment, which has left them in a state of bewilderment and disorientation. Out of the last eight games in English Premier League, Chelsea has won only two matches. Due to this poor run of form, Chelsea has
dropped from the top of the table, with a comfortable five points lead, to the third position. The main contenders to the title, Arsenal and Manchester United, have gone past the Blues while Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspurs are lingering around the corner.
The current month of English Premier League is very important in shaping up the season for any team. Although, Chelsea has thrown away a lot of points in recent weeks, but this would not make much difference if the next three weeks go well for the London
side. Chelsea faces Tottenham this week, at White Hart Lane, and Manchester United next week, at Stamford Bridge. Later on, Chelsea would go one on one against the current leaders Arsenal at Emirates Stadium. Therefore, if Chelsea is able to get the maximum
points in these fixtures, the team can easily reclaim their spot on top of the table.
However, this would not be an easy task because Chelsea has been dropping points against weaker opponents. The troubles of Chelsea have piled up to such an extent that the Blues need a real miracle to get them out of trouble. First, the problems started
with the main centre-halves getting injured. With Alex and John Terry out of the squad, Chelsea failed to stop their opposition from scoring and they were humiliated by Sunderland in front of the home crowd.
When the defensive problems were hampering Chelsea from keeping the opposition away from their goal, the attacking players suffered some kind of a set-back. Chelsea forwards failed to find goals and showed a really poor display of football week after week.
Therefore, when Alex returned to the team for one match and when John Terry made an early return after his injury problems, there was nothing that could be done to change defeats and draws into victories.
If a closer look is taken on Chelsea’s season so far, it must be noticed that the problems for the team started when Ray Wilkins, the assistant manager, was removed from his position. Although, Carlo Ancelotti denied that his removal had anything to with
the results, but the things are apparently not working in Chelsea’s favour since that incident. Also, Wilkins had a lot to do with the success of the team last season, which saw Chelsea winning the league title and FA Cup. Therefore, the removal of Wilkins
had something to do with the problems at Stamford Bridge.
Now, the main players of Chelsea are trying hard to get their focus back on the track. First, it was Michael Essien who spoke before the press and showed the determination to rediscover the winning ways. Now, Didier Drogba has also given an interview to
the press speaking about the coming weeks in English Premier League. Drogba acknowledged the threat of Tottenham Hotspurs and he declared them as title contenders. Drogba said that the matches are not coming at a good time for Chelsea but these might help
the Blues to get back on the track. In the end, Drogba showed his determination to end the bad period which saw Chelsea losing some important matches in previous weeks.
John Terry, Chelsea’s skipper, also tried to rally his players in an interview to the press. Terry said that such a patch of poor form was rare in Chelsea history but they have players like Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda, who can help the team with their
character. Terry asked his players to work hard and start winning the matches for their team.
Carlo Ancelotti has his future on stake, as he would not stay for much longer if he falls behind the title. Therefore, the coming weeks are important and Ancelotti has to get everything right in terms of tactics. The players have a responsibility to show
their character and personality in order to win from unfavourable position.
