Football Transfer Update: Chelsea complete Ramires move- Brazilian club, Santos to report Chelsea to FIFA for illegally acquiring 18 year old, Neymar
English premier league champions, Chelsea have completed the signing of Brazilian Ramires. The blues had been eyeing the player, who was playing in Portugal for Benfica.
The deal is believed to be worth 17 million pounds. The Midfielder passed a medical test at Stamford Bridge on Friday and is more than just ready, to put on the Chelsea Jersey.
Chelsea’s manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has said that the club is very excited to have him in the squad. Carlo said that he is a player with immense talent and ability and would add a lot to the team. He said that Ramires is the future of Brazil and he has no doubt that he is also going to be an integral part of Chelsea’s future.
On the other hand, Brazilian club, Santos has said that they are going to report Chelsea to football’s governing body FIFA following their approach to the young midfielder Neymar. The club say that the England club approached the 18 year old illegally and should be taken to task. Chelsea has made a bid for the young player that was worth 16 million pounds but it was turned down.
The club president, Luis Alvaro, said that Chelsea did make an official bid for Neymar but they did not accept it, and later they decided to directly contact the player which is unacceptable.
He added that this is completely unethical and Chelsea should be taken to task.
According to the FIFA regulations, Santos is within their right to go to FIFA and defend their right to protect their young midfielder from outside influences.
Meanwhile, the new recruit Ramires, who plays in the midfield and on the right flank, signed for the Portugal club Benfica in 2009, for a sum of 6.2 million pounds from Cruzeiro, has played 16 international games for Brazil.
The midfielder though will not be available to the blues on the opening weekend and will join the squad next week.
Ramires, who was understandably very pleased to have made the move, said that Chelsea is an enormous club and he is very happy to have signed the deal. He said that he would do all he can to repay the faith shown in him by the manager. He said that he has always admired Chelsea and the manager and the players at the club make the perfect combination for a world class team. He said that he has come to London to win trophies and retaining the domestic title, as well as winning the first champion’s league for the club would be the first things on his agenda.
The deal was all but done 2 weeks ago, but the only hurdle in the transfer was the work permit for the Brazilian.  The work permit was issued finally on Thursday; the requirement of Ramires having played 75 % of his international matches though has still not been fulfilled.
Despite the enormous amount of money available to Chelsea, Ramires is only the 2nd signing for Carlo Ancelotti this summer. The first one was Yossi Beanyoun from Liverpool.
Ramires was also hailed by his Brazilian manager Dunga after the world cup; the manager said that he was one of the most influential players in the world cup for him. Moreover, he added that he has a long future ahead of him for Brazil.  His former club Benfica would also have to pay 6 million pounds to sports entrepreneur Kia Joorabchian, who partially own the rights to the player, and facilitated the move last year from Cruzeiro.
