Football Update: Cole covering Gerrard’s back to set the records and Last chance for Liverpool to keep Torres
Joe Cole wants to play behind and support Fernando Torres, as has made this very clear, and wants to occupy Steven Gerrard’s usual position.
Steven Gerrard played in the Liverpool midfield last Sunday partnering with Jonjo Shelvey and Cole played like that in the match against Borussia Moenchengladbach.
Roy Hodgson has given the English midfielder his chance and debut, as he is playing mid fielder right now and there have been hints of moving him to striker position, Cole was often pushed way off wide during play in Chelsea.
Joe has been given the number 10 shirt and he is Roy Hodgsons second signing at the club. Cole commented on the matter by saying that it is quite practically like playing in the team as a third midfielder and always look to Steven Gerrard to move forward and then he himself moves forward with him to fill in the gap.
Cole went on to say that one of the most major reasons he left Chelsea and came to Liverpool, was only because he wanted to play side by side such great players. His aim was to make Gerrard as many chances for the score, as he possibly can.
He went on to say that he has been watching Gerrard very closely ever since he came to Liverpool and also during the season before and says that there is no doubt in his mind that he may as well be one of the best strikers in the world.
Cole continued by saying that he loves to play with strikers who play with the strategy of playing on the shoulder of their defender and said that the best striker that he has played with thus far in Chelsea, was Crespo and his movements and play in the game were unbelievable.
He said that he had a really good relationship with him and that is what he wants to make with Torres, the other players and loves to play support and making chances with the men in front.
David Villa says that he thinks of this as Liverpool’s “Last Chance” to retain Torres with them and went on to say that he was pretty much surprised that his national team member did not make a move to Chelsea, as the season started.
However, Villa still thinks that Fernando Torres may still want to move later on. Villa himself moved from Valencia to Barcelona right before the World Cup started and he confessed that he did expect Torres to move on from Liverpool, as Liverpool has finished its seventh season again in the lower ranks and has even failed to even qualify for the Champions League.
Villa went on to say that unless Roy Hodgson really turns things around for the club and makes a h**l of a difference, then he may as well loose his Torres really soon.
Villa was quoted by a local newspaper to say that he is really surprised that Torres stayed in Liverpool and said that when he had this conversation with him after the World Cup win, and he actually got the impression that he would make a move to Chelsea.
Villa went on to say that, he thinks that Chelsea must not have met Liverpool’s price for Torres, otherwise he is sure that a move would have been made by now.
Villa finished off by saying that this is definitely Liverpool’s last chance to hold on to their star player and Liverpool really needs to prove itself this season and if the club fails to win things this time, then he is sure that he will see Torres in Chelsea next summer.
