Football Update: Cristiano Ronaldo pumped up for the new season
The former world and European player of the year, Cristiano Ronaldo is not bothered by the weight of expectations on his Real Madrid team, he has said that the new season would be great for his club.
The expectations at the Santiago Bernebeu have reached new heights after the arrival of the Special one Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese is expected to work wonders with his star studded line up. While his star player Ronaldo has also given his support to the manager and said that the upcoming season may turn out to be one of the best for his club in recent memory.
Ronaldo while talking to the club’s official website said that there is no change in plans at the club, the aim has always been to win and that is what they will do this season.
Ronaldo said that they have an amazing squad, and if they work together and with cohesion, there is no reason why they cannot win the La Liga title and more. He said that an element of luck is always important and if they are blessed with that then there is no stopping Madrid this season.
The former Manchester United winger was criticised last season being selfish and more worried about show boating then performing for the team. Ronaldo has said that he would make amends by taking his team to championship this season.
He said he would try to score as many goals as he can this season, but will also concentrate on assisting players around him for a better overall result. The right footed player said that sometimes just goals are not enough and it did take him a while to understand, he said that like any other player he has also learned the game on the pitch. The Portuguese captain said that he would act as a playmaker more than a goal scorer and is sure that he would be able to benefit the side better in that manner. Ronaldo said that he has always wanted to win every game and nothing much would change for him this season. He added that he will continue to improve and is sure that under a manager like Jose Mourinho, he would be able to take his game to the next level.
Ronaldo said that the new manager Jose Mourinho is a fantastic choice by the club. He said that Mourinho is a born winner and sets his standards high. The former number 7 from United said that Real Madrid has numerous stars but there has to be a man who can make use of them to the optimum level. He said that Mourinho is definitely the man to do that job.
Jose Mourinho took over Real Madrid in May soon after winning the champions League final with Inter Milan at the home of Real Madrid. Jose not only managed to win the Champions league but created history at Inter by winning an unprecedented Italian treble. He won the Serie-A, Copa Italia and the European cup. Prior to that Inter had not won the champions league in 4 and a half decades and the special one was brought to Milan to do just that.
Mourinho has had a fantastic record wherever he has been. He won 4 back to back league titles with Portuguese side Porto, and also won UEFA cup and Champions league before joining Chelsea. Mourinho managed to get Chelsea to their first Premier League title and followed it up with another one the very next year. Moreover, he later moved to Inter where apart from the treble, he also won the Serie-A in his very first season in Italy.
