Football Update: David Beckham too old for Manchester United, Arsenal have no room
David Beckham’s chances of a dream move back to England look set for a major setback. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international, earlier this month, revealed that he wanted to play in England,
again...
As has been circulated in the media, the LA Galaxy player ideally wanted to remarry Manchester United as part of the deal of making his return to the Premier League:
“It's one of the most competitive leagues in the world and maybe one day I'll come back and play here, but I've always said it will only be for Manchester United.”
However, Beckham looks set to face a colossal disappointment as Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has no interest of signing his former player on the grounds that at the age of 35, the winger is too old.
"I don't think so with David at his age.  I have never signed a player at that age have I?" commented the Scotsman.
In comes Arsenal to the picture. The Gunners were speculated to be linked with the England winger as well. Beckham trained with the Arsenal squad at their training ground nearly 2 years ago and Arsene Wenger himself admitted that he was keen on adding him
to bolster his side on the experience front. However, owing to the Arsenal midfield already flooded with a lot of potential candidates, the Arsenal manager has backed out.
"I would consider signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Beckham-c10432, but we have (Theo) Walcott, (Samir) Nasri, (Tomas) Rosicky, (Andrey) Arshavin and (Emmanuel) Eboue who can play on the flanks."
explained the Arsenal boss.
Seeing the picture from the winger’s angle, it is clear as to where he’s coming from. Having already committed on seeing out his contract with the MLS side, Beckham needs some much needed game time to stay fit at his age. Also, and perhaps more relevantly,
playing in England would enable him to remind http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Capello, the England national team manager, that an old dog can
still do tricks.
Playing for top sides like Manchester United and Arsenal does go well on the player’s resume. But to be realistic, would either team be willing to start a game with the 35 year old or would he merely be a benchwarmer to be used
to fill in when or if needed? With that said, the former Real Madrid player is also understood to be on the wish-list of David Moyes and Everton FC, and giving the Blue proposal a little more consideration might be a more sensible option – It doesn’t
matter whom you love, what matters is who loves you back, Becks?
