Football Update: EPL Half Time Report- Liverpool vs. Aston Villa, 2-0 (Part 2)
In the 25th minute, Liverpool got a free kick in a dangerous area and it was Kyrgiakos, who got in position to score but the man who had scored again, Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool, headed the ball wide. Near the half hour mark and the Villains
were being out played by Reds, who were also missing the likes of their star defender, Jamie Carragher, because of an injury. Raul Meirles and Lucas Levia seemed to be doing a fine job, in the midfield. Though Aston Villa were missing a few players themselves,
they should really worry about making proper plays and retaining possession. So far, their players were simply clearing or hammering the ball, around the pitch.
During the 31st minute, Dirk Kuyt made a brave surge forward but even then, there was some poor defending. The attempt was finally cleared by a defender, by a marvellous tackle, when the ball came in too close.10 minutes left in the half and Babel,
who had barely featured this season, had certainly made his impact. He was strong out, in front and trying tooth-and-nail, to score another goal. Even though Aston Villa were without their key player, Ashley Young, who has been in demand by many top notch
clubs, his position was being filled in well. However, there was lack of midfield play, seen at Villa’s half.
Fans of Villa will be happy to see that Stephen Ireland finally featured again for Aston Villa. At the moment, the player is a rusty goal machine, who is craving to feel some time on pitch. Near to the end of the first half, Liverpool finally seemed to be
having a tougher time. The Aston Villa wingers threw the ball inside Liverpool box, one after another and their ball possession seemed to be increasing. Their strategy forced Liverpool goal keeper Jose Reina to clear the ball of midfield, which sometimes awarded
the ball back to Villians. The ratio of turnover of ball by Aston Villa in the midfield was a lot and for that reason, Villains fell behind.
There was a minute of injury time added into the match and Liverpool unleashed the last attack, however, the referee blew his whistle with the ball at N’Gog’s feet. The half ended, with both of Liverpool’s forwards scoring.
