Football Update: EPL- Juventus corroborate arrival of Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani on loan
The Italian superpowers Juventus have confirmed that they are going to sign the Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani from the English club Liverpool. The club has informed that they are going to acquire the 26 year old centre midfielder on loan for now but will try to purchase him in the following season.
It has been rumoured for a long time that the former Roma player is destined to reappear in Serie A after having played on loan for Triestina. He had a troubled last season at Anfield, as the star didn’t play because of a groin injury.
That was also the reason why Liverpool suffered so much in the last season, as they were already in trouble because of injuries and bad luck mixed with dreadful performances and poor management decisions.
Last summer, Aquilani created a lot of buzz in the football world as Spaniard Rafael Benitez signed him. Aquilani, a Roma bred player and decided to explore the football world out of the traditional Italian style of play. So far, he hasn’t been very successful in England having made 18 appearances for Liverpool and scoring just 1 goal.
If the player was given an opportunity to leave, no doubt he would for a better club than Liverpool and convey it goodbye to the English Premier League. However, in all fairness, his first English season with Liverpool was one of the worst for the club in a long time and therefore he did not have a very good opener.
The season ended with players wanting to leave the club, the manger fleeing, Merseyside club reaching near to financial bankruptcy and the owners looking for successors.
Juventus will predictably prove to be a better place for Aquilani and the new manager of Liverpool, Roy Hodgson has even announced that the Italian club can buy the player if they will for 13.1 million pounds but with the transfer window about to close on 31st August it is not likely Juventus are going to buy him.
Officials from Juventus have informed, “Juventus Football Club announces that an agreement with Liverpool F.C. for the free temporary acquisition of the registration rights of the player Alberto Aquilani has been reached.”
They added, “The agreement also includes the option to be exercised at the end of 2010-11 seasons, for the definitive acquisition by Juventus of the football player at the price of €16m (£13.1m), to be paid in three years.”
