Football Update: EPL News- Manchester City manager Mancini to face Robinho head on
Manchester City’s manager, Roberto Mancini, has stated that he will have a one on one meeting with the radical mutineer but brilliant player Robinho. He announced that in a press conference, along with saying that he and the Brazilian star needed a serious conversation before the start of the new English Premier League season.
The 26 year old Selecao, Róbson de Souza, more commonly known as Robinho has been playing with Santos on loan this year since January. The star confessed that he wants to play for Santos this season too but he has been met by resistance. The Brazilian international has said that he likes to play back home in Brazil instead of the English club.
Manchester City paid 32.5 million pounds for his transfer but the forward has failed to prove his worth at the Eastland’s. Since acquiring him two years back, his career at the Light Blues has been extremely disappointing. Owners and managers have considered the same and therefore are hesitant in making him play at the club.
The star started his senior career at Santos in 2002 and stayed there for 3 years. He has always admired the time he spent with them and respects his first team a lot. The second striker has 111 caps for them, in which he has scored 46 times.
In 2005, he joined Real Madrid and played for another 3 years with them. At Bernabeu, the young striker made 101 appearances in which he produced 25 goals. His time in Real Madrid was met by major controversies. He was constantly in demand by different team, while rumours about his scandals and controversies were rife.
His term in Real Madrid ended in 2008, when he was bought off by Manchester City. Since then he has had 41 caps for the club and in them, he has just scored 14 goals. After that, he played for Santos on loan.
However, he performed marvellously in the FIFA 2010 World Cup campaign. He played brilliantly as a second striker making the world recognize again his amazing ability of one touch finishes. He played a crucial part in bringing the Selecao team to the quarter finals, where they were defeated by the Netherlands 2-1.
The 45 year old Italian manager has informed that he will talk to Robinho after he has played Brazil’s match against United States
The Manchester City manager stated, “Robinho will stay in Brazil until the international game and then he will come back here because I need to speak with him. I worked with him for one month, then he decided to go back to Brazil. He said he wanted to stay at home so he could prepare to play for Brazil at the World Cup”.
He also informed, “There was no pressure from me but now I must speak with him because it is very difficult for him to stay at Santos”. The manager is trying to pile up his new team before the season starts. Their season opener is a tough one to against the 4th place Tottenham Hotspurs. Hotspurs just barley squeezed passed Manchester City last season in the last match and therefore Manchester City came 5th.
To remove all obstacles, the rich Arab owner of the Eastland’s, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan has ensured Mancini that he will have enough funds to develop his squad. In that accord, Mancini has spent over 80 million pounds in signing new players this summer and he has no plans of stopping.
He possesses the most highly paid player by EPL; Yaya Toure. The club is paying him 220,000 pounds a week. They have acquired players like Jerome Boateng, David Silva and Aleksandr Koralov.
They are still in the process obtaining the new prodigy in football, Italian Mario Balotelli from Inter Milan, which also happened to be the previous club of Mancini. The 19 year old striker snubbed 65,000 pounds per week deal from Manchester United to Inter Milan, however he is demanding 180,000 pounds per week salary from the Eastland’s and that is hindering the process.
Mancini has revealed that the deal is just about to happen and the club is anticipating his arrival, “I am still hopeful. We have time but we will not pay too high a price.”
