Football Update: EPL News- Mancini condemns selfishness as City win against Bolton
Manchester City’s manager Roberto Mancini has come out and accused some of his players of selfishness on the field of play after his side secured a narrow 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers in the English Premier League. Mancini was outraged by his side’s display
during which they squandered several chances to add to their lead. However, in the end it all ended in a relief for the Italian who saw his team secure all three points against Owen Coyle’s men.
Carlos Tevez was the scorer of the only goal of the match for City, the goal in question came in the 10th minute of the encounter but it was the difference between the two sides in the end. City’s win means that they made up a further three points
on the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea as the former didn’t play on Saturday while Chelsea drew their away fixture against Everton.
Mario Balotelli and David Silva both his the bar with their efforts at the City of Manchester stadium but Mancini spared no one in his post match press conference as he stated,
"You can say we had some bad luck but we must improve. Sometimes we are too selfish. We had maybe 15 chances to score. When you have a lot of chances you think the game is easy. You shoot when it is better to pass the ball. We must improve this situation.
It means you can draw when you should have won by three or four goals.”
He added, "It was the same at Stoke where we deserved to win but we drew. When we have a chance we must score. If I had played today I would have scored two or three goals."
Gary Cahill was at fault for City’s singular goal in the match as he failed to cut out a through pass by Yaya Toure towards Tevez. The Argentinean slotted the ball away perfectly after controlling it with perfection. A negative spot for City during the
match was Kolarov who was sent off by the referee for two bookable offences.
Tevez exchanged a few heated words with Mancini when he was substituted at the end of the match for James Milner. However, the ex-Inter Milan man elaborated on the incident as he said he is happy about this and would like all players to be like Carlos. He
further stated that he needed a player like Mario on the pitch, as he is taller than Carlos and that they must continue to score when Carlos doesn't play.
Speaking about Kolarov’s sending off, Mancini said, "I did not agree with that decision. It was not right." On the other hand, Owen Coyle was disappointed after his side’s loss to City.
The former Burnley manager said, "When you come to an elite club you do not want to be chasing the game as early as we were. It was a soft goal to concede. But bit by bit I felt we got into the game and were always in it. We could very easily got the
equalizer. As much as I didn't think we got to our maximum - we didn't put enough quality ball in the box - we could have nicked a point. We showed tremendous spirit. Of course I am unhappy our run has ended but we will get back to work with a smile on our
face next week."
