Football Update: EPL news- Arsenal sink woeful Chelsea
Finally, Arsenal broke their jinx against a woeful Chelsea side to record their first win over London rivals Chelsea in last six encounters. Arsenal started the match brightly, which is what they do against majority of their opponents, but this match, ended
the right way.
As usual, Arsenal stamped their authority on the proceedings with several chances in the first half but failed to make the opposition pay. As the half went on, fans started to wonder whether this is going to be a game where the Gunners control possession
and the game, but lose out in the end.
In the opening exchanges, Arsenal controlled the possession and applied pressure on Chelsea defence, who defend deep into their half. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 had a wonderful opportunity to mark his return with a bang, when he was left unmarked near the by-line,
but skewed the effort over the net. In the 41st minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Petr-Cech-c29837 made a superb save to deny Nasri; who tipped the ball over the bar, after Nasri's strike was definitely going in the top left corner.
The deadlock was finally broken on the verge of half-time. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ferreira-c13712 and somehow Alexander Song was at the right place with the ball in his feet, he smashed it into
the far corner of the net. Arsenal went into the break up one.
After the interval, the question was: could Arsenal keep their momentum going? We didn’t have to wait long, as we got the answer five minutes after the interval, when Fabregas fired home a second goal. In the lead up http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ashley-Cole-c6809 was caught out of position
by rejuvenated http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Walcott-c34873, who slid in behind the Blues back four. He had the presence of mind to square the ball for unmarked Cesc Fabregas, just as the charging Cech reached him. Fabregas calmly side-footed the ball into the back of the net.
Arsenal fans were still up on their feet celebrating the second goal when Gunners added a third goal. Walcott again tormented the Chelsea defence with his stinging runs, this time he fired past Cech into the opposite corner with a delicate strike. It looked
as though we have a goal-fest on our hands. They seem like scoring every time they go forward.
In the 57th minute, Chelsea got one back. Ivanovic headed home a Drogba free-kick. The remaining 15 minutes were tense as both sides looked for a goal that could either revive or kill the game.
Nasri had a golden opportunity to settle the encounter. But, his tame effort was easily fisted away by Cech. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Abou-Diaby-c3453 returned from the injury, which had sidelined him for 4 weeks as he replaced excellent Walcott. He soon got into action as he found the
ball at his feet in the penalty box. He hesitated to shoot with his left-foot and switched it to his right. This gave Chelsea’s defence enough time to scramble back and block his strike.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 controlled the game for the last ten or so minutes, and it was nervous times for the Arsenal back-four. In the 89th minute, the ball found the back of the net after it rebounded off the post. The goal was rightly ruled out as handful of Chelsea players
were offside in the in the lead up.
Finally, the moment Gunners fans were waiting for Arsenal broke their disastrous run against Champions with a memorable scalp.
Final Score: Arsenal 3 Chelsea 1.
