Football Update: England defender Michael Dawson has been ruled out of Tuesday's Euro 2012 qualifier in Switzerland after suffering an injury
Sources have revealed that the English centre back Michael Dawson is going to be out for around 6 weeks. Fans and sport followers were waiting for news from the English team’s doctors, now reports revealed that the player has indeed suffered from a bad knee injury.
The injury comes after welcoming news from the English stadium Wembley, where the Three Lions destroyed Bulgaria 4-0. In the match, Dawson awkwardly damaged his knee and was immediately sent for scans and examinations.
Now it is concluded that the Tottenham Hotspurs defender is suffering from ligament and cartilage damage in his right leg. After the match, reports had confirmed that Dawson had some discomfort in his right leg.
No one could have predicted that the injury could turn out to be this serious. As early reports from the doctors had suggested that, the player might be out of two matches.
Early reports had also concluded that Dawson might have broken his leg, as the player walked of field soon after the 2nd half began. Scans after that match showed that the player had not broken his leg but did suffer a lot of muscle damage.
This still was bad news and he was sent in for further examination and kept under hourly observations.
Recently an official from the Football Association informed, “Last night, we really thought Michael Dawson had broken his leg, but the scan has shown no fracture and no snapped ligament. The damage will keep him out for around five to six weeks.”
He added, “It is apparently not so bad as we first feared, and that is at least some good news for him.”
The English manager Fabio Capello also commented after the match that he was concerned over the player’s injury. Now the Italian manager who is also the head of FA will have to use the Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill for the centre back position.
On Dawson Capello stated, “I have to wait to find out about Dawson. I am not a doctor. We have to wait for the tests.”
Dawson has so far appeared in just two matches for England and was called in for John Terry, who had earlier in the week ruled out because of a leg injury as well. The other man in the defensive mid, Rio Ferdinand was also injured early in the season; however, he is now fit to play and has been added in the reserve squad.
The injury of Jermaine Defoe will also trouble England. In the match against Bulgaria, Defoe scored a hatrick but soon after his 3rd goal, the Tottenham Hotspurs striker injured his leg. News on him has yet to come.
It is said that Defoe won’t play in the next qualification match against Switzerland.
