Football Update: Everton vs. Newcastle - Match Preview
The Mersey side club Everton would be looking to build on the morale boosting 3-3 draw against Manchester United, as they take on Newcastle this weekend. Despite the heroic 2 goals in stoppage time, Everton are still without a win this season.
This is by far their worst start to a premier league season. It was only back in 1994 that the Toffes failed to get a win in first 4 games.
The premier league table shows Everton only 2nd from bottom, but the performance shown against the former champions Manchester United last week may suggest that they would not rest on the bottom for too long.
Blackburn Rovers got the better of them in the first match; a draw against Wolves in the 2nd match was probably the most disappointing one. Aston Villa that is believed to be a team in transition also got the better of them with a 1-0 win.
David Moyes’s team would be hoping to have a better show in front of goal this time, after missing number of opportunities this season. Especially against Manchester United, if the blues had been more clinical in front of goal, it may have ended in a remarkable
win for them.
Newcastle on the other hand has had a start stop season. The 6-0 win against Aston Villa in the first game if the season really announced their come back to the Premier League. However, the last game against Blackpool ended in a disappointing 2-0 loss, despite
Newcastle dominating most parts of the match.
As far as team news is concerned, David Moyes is expected to keep the same team that got a fighting 3-3 draw against Manchester United. No changes would mean that Tim Cahill would have to stay up, while Yakubu and Jermaine Beckford will be on the bench.
Louis Saha and Jack Rodwell are expected to miss out for Everton and Sylvian Distin may be the one player to be dropped following his dreadful performance against United.
Andy Carroll is the man from Newcastle who made the headlines in his first game in the premier League scoring a hat trick, the front man has carried his forward his form and has been impressive.
Chris Hughton the team manager for Magpies does not have any new injury problems in his squad. Carroll has been suffering from an ankle problem, while Sol Campbell is also on his way back to full fitness.
Hatem Ben Arfa made his debut last week against Blackpool and was quite impressive. Arfa is expected to stay in the starting XI. Danny Guthrie is out with a knee injury, Danny Simpson has not recovered from an ankle injury and Steven Taylor still has a
shoulder problem. Everton’s former young player, Dan Gossling, made his way out of Goodison Park in controversial circumstances. It would have been a great chance to play against his former team, but a knee problem is sure to keep him out.
David Moyes is expected to keep Tim Howard in goal, backline should comprise of Hibbert, Distin, Jagielka, Baines, midfield would see Heitinga, Fellaini, Osman and Arteta while Pienaar, Cahill continue to remain in attack.
Newcastle boss, Hughton is expected to go with Stephen Harper in the goal, Coloccini, Taylor, Williamson and Enrique in defence and Barton, Smith, Nolan and Gutierrez would make up the midfield, while Ben Arfa, Carroll are favourites to be in attack.
