Football Update: Inter Milan thrash Bremen, as Eto’o rounded off a perfect hat trick in the second half
Champions league holders Inter Milan showed their master class against Werder Bremen routing them four goals to nil helped by a scintillating hat trick from striker Samuel Eto’o.
Inter were quick to shrug off the misery of defeat at the hands of AS Roma in the Italian Serie A. No body from the either sides was able to match the performance of Eto’o or even coming close to it. He was the star of the night helping Inter to thrash the
German outfit.
Former Barca striker was on song last night when he put the holder in the driving seat scoring two goals in quick succession. Wesley Sneider who narrowly missed on player of the tournament award at the world cup was also on the scoring sheet for Inter.
The game was played on a high tempo and Werder were unable to sustain the flood of attacks. Samuel Eto’o rounded off a perfect hat trick in the second half. Thanks to his rich vain of goal scoring form, he is the top scorer in the Champions league with four
goals to his credit in only two games.
In addition, his prolific form has put him as the joint top scorer in Seria A with five goals.
After an injury to Diego Milito, the former Barcelona striker got a chance to play as a central striker and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
Inter Milan’s Coach, Rafael Benitez described as why the striker has been dangerous recently. He stated that under Jose Mourinho he was playing on the right wing which hardly gave him much scoring chances but now Benitezt has him playing either on left wing
or as a central striker. He further said that the Cameroon skipper is most dangerous when he is hovering around the goal.
Inter got their first goal in the twenty first minute when Eto’o pounced on to the assist from Argentine Esteban Cambiasso and scored his second right after the first one. Eto’o finished the game with contributing in every goal of the game as he also assisted
Wesley Sneijder.
Meanwhile, Barcelona were irritated by the minnows Ruben Kazan who seems to enjoy playing against the Spanish giants. Last season Ruben Kazan stunned Barca when they went on to defeat the Spanish champions at their home ground two goals to one and played
a courageous draw at home.
Even the world player of the year Lionel Messi, failed to spread his magic and the two sides shared the honours last night. It could have been worse for Barcelona but only the goal post came to their rescue when Obafemi Martins header struck the wood work
in the dying moments of the game.
Messi came on as a substitute in the second half but was denied by the Rubin Kazan’s keeper Sergei Ryzhikov. Both sides were unable to create any clear cut chances and the goals came from spot kicks. Rubin Kazan got the lead from Christian Noboa's spot kick
but David Villa cancelled the advantage with another penalty but this time it was the other way round and the game ended 1-1.
David Villa said they had to earn their point against Rubin, who were very hard to break down due to their solid defensive display.
