Football Update: Juventus Thinking about Bringing In New Players
The most successful club in the history of Italy, Juventus, would be strengthening in January transfer window. Already they have bought Milos Krasic, Alberto Aquilani and Fabio Quagliarella in the summer, but the squad is still far from being complete.
Juventus General Manager, Beppe Marotta, has confirmed that his sides have plans for reinforcement in winter transfer window. Marotta told the newsmen that Juventus has already spent a lot of money and is looking to make big investments in January as well as in summer transfer windows. He did not name any specific players but he outlined his plan by saying that there are many players who could be brought in Juventus, as they are willing to leave their current clubs.
Already, Luigi Del Neri, the new manager of Juventus, has also outlined his plan, which specifically included signing a new defender in January. Maxi Lopez, the striker from Catania, is on top of the priority list, but Marotta believed that the time was not right to name any names, because there was still a lot of time before the January transfer window. Before the actual time of signings arrive, a lot of things can change which can influence one’s decision.
Juventus is not having a great season so far, as they sit on fifth position in Serie A. Their rivals, Inter Milan and AC Milan are ahead, while Lazio is leading the rankings at this moment. However, goal scoring does not seem to be a problem for Juventus. They have scored twelve goals in four home games, while they could only come up with four goals in three games away from home. On the other hand, their defence seems to be struggling, as Juventus gave away nine goals, in which eight were scored against them in home fixtures. This seems to be the biggest problem of Juventus, at this moment.
Summer signings of Juventus have proven to be good, as both Krasic and Quagliarella have come up with three goals so far. Among the summer signings, Krasic has shown his real class, as the young Serbian has also made five assists in seven matches, in addition to the three goals netted by him. However, not a single player from Juventus has established himself as a proven goal-scorer. Unlike Zlatan Ibrahimovic, there is no such player who can single-handedly come up with 24-25 odd goals to help his team to win trophies.
As Marotta mentioned that, a striker could be signed, as there are many players who wish to leave their current club. The two big players who are currently unhappy are Fernando Torres and Wayne Rooney, so there is a probability that one of these players could be targeted by Juventus. There is little doubt that Juventus is one of the biggest clubs in Europe, so if an opportunity is thrown towards these strikers, they would definitely avail their chances.
Juventus is trying hard to regain their top position in Italian Serie A, which is compelling them to invest more and more money. But, winning is not easy in Italy, as it should always be backed by strong defence. In case of Juventus, this seems to be a big problem, as the Old Lady is failing to stop their oppositions from scoring. Although, a 0-0 draw away at Inter Milan was a great result, but apart from that, the defence has made many mistakes.
Therefore, the Old Lady could be reinforced with a few defenders, especially in the centre of the park. Although, there are no names being mentioned, but the options are there. It would be better for Del Neri to use the money to strengthen his defence, which could prove vital in deciding the trophy at the end of this season.
At this moment, there is not much difference between Lazio and Juventus, as only five points separate both teams. If Del Neri uses his head right and buys the right players, there is no doubt that Juventus can pull this through and win Serie A this season.
