Football Update: Liverpool’s Babel handed a ten thousand pound ticket fine for slandering Howard Webb online
The Dutch International was issued a warning by the Football Association for his statements on Twitter.
The twenty four year old Dutch winger/striker that currently plays for the Reds was issued a statement from the Football Association today.
Ryan Babel was fined ten thousand pounds for the statements that he made on his twitter account regarding Howard Webb after his last clash with the referee in the last Liverpool match.
The Dutch player was charged by the Football association for improper conduct used in an online forum and a regulatory commission was held a hearing on the matter today.
The hearing discussed, reviewed and took a decision regarding http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Babel-c31971’s comments and images uploaded regarding Howard Webb. Apparently, the player had called the thirty nine year old English referee as a man who took sides in a match.
The player slandered the referee after the Manchester United versus http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 clash which resulted in a red card for the Reds and a penalty given to the Red Devils which was though by most Liverpool fans and players as unfair and unjust.
Babel also released a picture of the English referee in a Manchester United shirt to signify that he had taken his role in the encounter from a biased position.
The hearing of Regulatory Commission was chaired by Roger Burden who made this statement in a press conference
"Social network sites, like Twitter, must be regarded as being in the public domain and all participants need to be aware, in the same way as if making a public statement in other forms of media, that any comments would be transmitted to a wider audience.”
He said that it is the responsibility of the players and every other member of the club that has a worldwide audience to use appropriate comments for their fellow colleagues and warned them of such behaviour.
