Football Update: Marouane Chamakh proves his worth to Arsenal and presents a real chance of being the top gun next season, Frimpong on the rise as well
Chamakh gave an astounding performance at the Emirates Stadium, while making his debut for Arsenal. With a goal in his first match for the Gunners, the striker has definitely proven his worth in the squad and establishing that Wenger indeed has a sharp sight when he is out hunting for talent.
Emmanuel Frimpong, the Arsenal midfielder has stated that the French player of Moroccan descent, Chamakh will add the x factor to Arsenal’s team in the coming season. Frimpong has expressed that the mere presence of Chamakh lifted the morale of the team and they played a much more aggressive and intelligent game.
Frimpomg even stated that the Chamakh fills in the gap left by their former forward and now Manchester City player Emmanuel Adebayor. Ghanaian Frimpong, has articulated that since the departure of Adebayor from North London, the Gunners have lacked a person that can finish as a centre forward and in addition to that can also perform his duties as an attacking midfielder.
Chamakh has arrived in the English club from French club Bordeaux on a free transfer and in his debut for Arsenal; he impressed all witnesses of the friendly match. He was man of the hour when he scored the lone goal that helped the Gunners attain a draw against the Italian club AC Milan in the Emirates Cup.
Chamakh proved to be a hot topic during the summers as teams made attempts to get their hands on him but Arsenal beat them all early and they are reaping the results of that now. Chamakh has also settled in to the team quite beautifully, showing some great chemistry in his debut with other team mates.
Nicklas Bendtner was one man that seemed well connected to him. Bendtner who has a good height and exhumes an aura of distinction will now be helped by the Moroccan in the attack. However, Bendtner does not have the finesse and finishing skills that Chamakh so easily presents, even though he does become the person that dominates in the attack. With his arrival, Arsene Wenger is sure to benefit from all those chances that he missed in front of the posts last season.
Frimpong has reckoned that there are a lot of similarities present in the game style of Chamakh and Adebayor who went out to the Citizens for 25 million pounds in the summer of 2009.
While talking to media Frimpong stated, “That is the kind of player we need. Since Adebayor went we haven't had anyone up front to hold up the ball and bring people into play and I think that's what Marouane likes doing and that's what he likes best”.
With an ability of controlling the ball impeccably and poise confidence and calm in front of the goal posts, it is predicted by experts that next season Chamakh will competing for title of the highest goal scorers in English Premier League, bring him in direct competition with Adebayor.
On the new signings made by Arsenal, Frimpong expressed that he personally was very happy with them. He also praised the insight the Frenchman Wenger had in the market, he said, “They (the new signings) have proved what good players they are. I think Laurent (Koscielny) looked good at the back and Marouane scored a good goal”.
The Emirates Cup also proved to be a great opportunity for the 18 year old Frimpong to get some experience and be ready for a more constant future at North London. The young player was chosen ahead of the experienced Clarence Seedorf and Gennaro Gattuso. This also occurred because of the injuries of Alex Song and Abou Diaby.
Frimpong wasn’t expecting an appearance in the match against the Rossoneri. He had even told his parents of not to bother coming to the match as he didn’t expect an appearance. However, after showing some promising performances to Jack Wilshere, it seems that the player’s days and rumours of loans are from happening and Wenger might soon consider him in the first line up.
Frimpong collaborated, “I've got a meeting with him next week and we are going to see what the plan is for the season. I wasn't expecting to play, I told my parents not to come to today's game actually, I didn't think I was going to start. They watched it at home”.
He added, “It (pre-season) has been going well so far, but I just have to keep going and see how it goes. In all the games I've been playing I think I have done quite well and I'm just trying to take my opportunities and see how things go”.
