Football Update: Park Ji Sung delights united fans with a stunning winner
Sensational Manchester United keep their record of scoring late in injury time with South Korean Park Ji Sung snatching the victory in the dying moments of the game against Wolves which have kept his team alive in the fight to topple Chelsea.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s side was five points behind the league leaders before the games against Wolves but their recent victory have put pressure on Chelsea who will be playing against Arsenal who are the other contenders to lift the championship.
The first half was a dull one with either side failing to make any clear cut openings to trouble the goalkeepers. Rooney less United were also without in form duo of Portuguese Nani and Bulgaria’s Dimitar Berbatov. Both have been in sublime touch for their
side during the start of the season with the Bulgarian striker in rich vain of goal scoring form and Nani finally coming of age –starting to prove his potential with his scintillating performances.
When the half time was approaching, it was looking that the first half of the game will end without any goal but as Manchester United have done in last decade scored in ending minutes of the first half. But United delighted was short lived as Wolves got
back level on terms thanks to close range shot from Sylvan Ebanks-Blake who was previously a trainee at Old Trafford. He was elated scoring against his first for whom he never got a chance to prove his ability on the biggest stage of all.
It was Sir Alex Ferguson’s 24th Anniversary and by the look things, it was looking eminent that United players will fail to give a birthday winning present to their master. The workaholic South Korea Park Ji Sung again came to the rescue of United
securing a winner in the 93rd minute to give his side much needed three points to ensure they remain on the tail of Chelsea who leading the Barclays Premier League.
However, the victory was marred by the injury to holding midfielder Owen Hargreaves who limped off only after five minutes after his first start in more twenty four months. After his Switch from Bundesliga outfit Bayern Munich to Manchester United, Hargreaves
has not been able to put together even six games in a row once and his signing has been a lost cause. Considering his transfer fees, money spent on his rehabilitation process and his weekly wages it is United who have been at the receiving end. Hargreaves
has hardly given a hundred couple of pounds in return.
South Korean Park was delighted on scoring a brace because he has always been criticized for not able to score which have added the burden on the frontline players to find the back off the net. But Park’s recent display has come as a ray of hope that now
United can rely on the likes of Park Ji Sung, Darren Fletcher and Nani to share the burden of goals with the strikers who have injury plagued recently.
Wayne Rooney is expected to be away from the game for few weeks and Michael Owen will be out until the Christmas. But new signing Mexican pedigree Javier Hernandez has shown that he is ready to emulate the likes of Van Nistlerooy, Rooney and Ole Gunnar Solskajaer.
Sir Alex will be fancying his side chances to go to top before the Boxing Day arrives, as it is believed that whoever tops the charts or are in the bottom will finish in the same position.
