Football Update: Phil Brown appointed as new Preston North End boss
Preston North End have signed former Hull City boss Phil Brown as their new manager.
Preston recently sacked Darren Ferguson and hired Brown in an attempt to save themselves from a relegation threatened season. Brown, who has been unemployed since his sacking by Hull in March 2010, was delighted to be back at the
helm of a club and looks to help the side maintain their Championship status.
Earlier, Brown’s efforts helped Hull City gain their Premier League status for the first time. Brown, who brought Hull to the Premier League in 2008, managed three back-to-back seasons in the top flight. However, Hull sacked Brown
in an attempt to save themselves from relegation from the Premier League in 2010. Nonetheless, all their efforts went in vain as they ended up being relegated eventually. Brown has since been on the lookout for a managerial job and has remained an active participant
on television and radio talk shows.
Preston were without a manager since December 29, when Darren Ferguson was sacked. The sacking led to Sir Alex Ferguson, father of Darren Ferguson, calling back two of his loaned out players from Preston.
Brown, who has been under the guidance of Sir Alex since his sacking, has now been confirmed as the new boss and he met the players for the first time yesterday.
"Preston North End are a big club with great history and tradition and I am really looking forward to the challenge and opportunity. I would like to thank the chairman, owner and board of directors for putting their faith in me
and whilst I know the current position is one we do not want to be in, I have every belief in the players' and my own ability to get us out of the situation we are in,” stated the former Hull coach.
The manager added that he has a tough job ahead of him, as the fans are educated and well aware of the game. Brown, just like the fans, would therefore want Preston to succeed under his belt.
"The supporters of this football club are some of the most knowledgeable in the country and like them I want to see the club progress and I hope to be a part of a successful Preston North End," claimed Brown.
