Football Update: Premier League News- Manchester City Captain Carlos Tevez hands transfer request
The Manchester City captain, Carlos Tevez, is rumoured to have made a surprising 180 degree turn from being a potential long term prospect to a troubled foreign player. The Argentine has been reported to have stunned Man City fans by announcing that he wants
to leave the club.
According to reports on Saturday evening, Tevez handed a written transfer request as confirmed by the Press Association Sport. However, neither player nor club have issued an official statement as of yet.
It is believed that the Manchester City captain’s abrupt decision was due to the growing turmoil in his private life. It is still up for debate whether the club shall honour his wishes or not. The striker’s plans are not well known yet, however, it is suggested
that he misses his daughters back home and a return to South America might be on the cards accordingly.
Another reason for the Argentine wanting to board a separate ship could be due to deteriorating relations with the Manchester City manager, Roberto Mancini. While the former Inter Milan manager
did select Tevez to lead his multi-billion dollar army at the start of the season, there is growing concern over their relationship in present times. Tevez’s reaction at being substituted at the game against Bolton Wanderers was evidence of that –
A committed team player would not have reacted the way the former Manchester United player did. Tevez was a noticeable absentee on the players’ Christmas party which doesn’t paint a
Blue picture either.
However, the Blues have relied on their captain more than anyone in the squad. Tevez has scored a total of 39 goals in 60 appearances for the club and despite the unlimited amount of money at Mancini’s disposal; it is evident that the Argentine has been
a cornerstone for the team’s recent success.
Manchester City, surprisingly, do not have many viable replacements in the striking department. Mario Balotelli, their big money transfer from Inter Milan has failed to have much of an effect. Moreover, the striker has been seen to act rashly and has already
been red carded for his actions once. Emmanuel Adebayor on the other hand, is destined for an exit this January as the Togo international was troubled by the lack of first team football he got.
However, Tevez has been brought up in a luxury that not many clubs in Europe could match. He is presently a Manchester City property, meaning that the club could either wish to retain him till his contract expires or sell him at the price that they see fit.
On the contrary, a similar situation was seen with Wayne Rooney recently. When all looked lost, Tevez’s old strike partner surprised the football world by signing a 5 year contract with the Red Devils... Perhaps it’s too soon to speculate for the Manchester
City captain as well.
