Football Update: Premier League News- Stoke City vs. Fulham – Two quick fire goals give Fulham win
Fulham travelled to Stoke knowing that it had been forty three years since they last went on to beat Stoke away from home. Apart from that, it had also been twenty six games for Fulham, without having secured a win in the top flight of English football.
On the other hand, the Potters had managed to win all three of their previous encounters against Fulham, including a clash in the Carling Cup in September. As a result, Mark Hughes had a giant uphill battle on his hands going into the game, if he wished to
secure any points at all.
The match kicked off in almost a dream like manner for the visitors. In just the third minute, Fulham had taken the lead in the game. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Baird the holding midfielder on the Fulham striker went on to unleash a wonder striker from twenty five yards out.
The ball fell to the player out of luck, as a clearance from the Stoke defence managed to find its way towards him. However, what he did afterwards was anything but being lucky and as a result, Fulham had the shock lead on the night.
Seven minutes later it was Chris Baird once again, who was doing all the talking. The player took a brilliant free-kick and managed to fire it just beyond Begovic's reach in the Stoke goal and as a result, Fulham had a very early two goal lead.
However, after having scored those two early goals, Mark Hughes seemed to indicate to his men that the match was in the bag and that they should just look to hold the ball now. The team looked to be doing just that, as afterwards they managed to create only
one more clear cut chance for the remainder of the match. Which came right before the stroke of half time.
In the second half, it is safe to say that it was all Stoke. The home side were looking close to being desperate to finding the back of the net, but just couldn’t seem to do that. This was because despite the team creating numerous chances, they failed to
keep their shots on target and the ones they did get on target were saved easily by Mark Schwarzer. As a result of these failed chances, the match ended with Fulham winning away at stoke after nearly half a century and with three crucial points, right before
the start of the new year.
