Football Update: Premier League News- West Ham United, Wigan Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers
West Ham United
West Ham United boss, Paul Groves was happy with the impressive work rate of his players, following the side’s 1-1 draw against Stoke City over the weekend. Scott Parker managed to open the account for the Hammers but had the lead neutralized in the second
half by Kenwyne Jone’s close range header. The manager, who was in charge in place of Avram Grant, was seen screaming on the side line, as he gave orders, claimed that the away fixture at Stoke has always been difficult. Groves explained that so far, the Hammers
have faced difficult challenges against the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United and was delighted by the player’s work rate and lived up to the challenge. The manager claimed it was an overall decent performance as the side managed to create a lot of chances
in the first half.
“It was different in the second half, but I felt that we showed good character, good spirit and good togetherness in terms of answering one or two questions when they managed to get the goal early on. That was a difficult time, but we came out of that
the other side and started to get a grip on the game a little bit. Then you are always going to face a bit more in the last 10 minutes, but we weathered that as well," stated Paul Groves.
Wigan Athletic
Manager Roberto Martinez has insisted that the defensive faults by Mohamed Diame and Maynor Figueroa led the both of Manchester City’s goal over the weekend. The visitors managed to thrash the home side 2-0, owing to a sensational performance by Carlos Tevez.
The Argentine scored the opener against Wigan, followed by an assist to Yaya Toure was a simple goal. Martinez stated that Manchester City created easy chances which were very embarrassing. The manager added that for his side, the hardest job would be to
keep a clean sheet and have always been soft in defence which have led to the side conceding goals and put most of the games out of their reach. Owing to the defensive slack, the side now has to climb out of the relegation zone and win a few fixtures in order
to secure their future in the premier league.
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Manager Harry Redknapp was extremely happy with his side’s performance against Wolves, when Tottenham thrashed the away side 3-1. The side managed to score three times in the thirteen minutes and was thus was able to register their first premier league win
of the season. Rafael Van Der Vaart’s strike managed to put the matters on equal footings before goals from Roman Pavyluchenko and Alan Hutton to seal the deal at White Hart Lane. Spurs manager thus claimed that he wasn’t disappointed with how his side played.
Being 1-0 down was an obvious disadvantage, but the manager trusted his side and that paid dividends when the side managed a 3-1 victory. Redknapp therefore stated as a side, Spurs did extremely well and made a lot of opportunities. The side would then want
to stick to such performances and finish off all the opportunities.
