Football Update: Premier League news- Arsenal, Aston Villa, Birmingham City
Arsenal
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger believes that club Captain Cesc Fabregas would be ready to play against Premier League Champions Chelsea in the coming weekend. The midfielder went through a hamstring pull when he netted a deflected goal against Sunderland
last weekend, where he blocked a clearance by Anton Ferdinand, which unexpectedly went inside the goal. Fabregas was still in the process of finding his top form in the premier league following his rather disappointing World Cup campaign. Even though Spain
won the tournament, Arsenal Skipper was an unused substitute on most occasions in South Africa. Fabregas is currently receiving treatment in France and it is reported that the Spanish midfielder may well be back by the 3rd October fixture.
"I hope that he will be ready for the Chelsea match and that he will be fine. But at the moment we don't know, it's too early," claimed Arsene Wenger. Fabregas would be out of the Saturday’s clash against West Brom as well as the Champions league
trip to Partizan Belgrade, but he is currently working hard to recover in time for the Chelsea game.
"The injury is not as bad as we first thought. There is no muscle rupture and I will be back perfect in about 10 to 11 days. I am working with an osteopath in Paris and just working day to day. I think I will make the Chelsea game," stated the 23
year old.
Aston Villa
Good news for Aston Villa fans and new manager Gerard Houllier, as start winger Ashley Young has expressed his delight of signing a new contract with club. Young had been strongly linked to a move away from Villa Park and 4th place Tottenham Hotspurs
were the potential buyers of the player. Young has been phenomenal for the Villians this season and has expressed his eagerness to sign a new and improved contract with the Midlands club. On the question of the contract, Young stated that he was always winning
to sign a new deal and if the talks come through, he would be delighted to put pen on paper.
Birmingham City
Birmingham City manager, Alex McLeish has acclaimed club Captain Stephen Carr for his fighting spirit in overcoming from a broken toe in the start of the season. Carr had to undergo regular injections to ease the pain and to make sure he was able to feature
in each of City’s premier league fixtures so far this season. The player was given rest for the Carling Cup match on Wednesday, but would be available for selection on the weekend home clash against Wigan Athletic. The manager stated that for the past one
month, Carr has taken an injection daily and was sad for the player to endure so much pain. The manager added that to endure daily injection is difficult since the toe is a small area and the cortisones tend to go deep into the tender area. Yet the captain
has managed some hi-fi performances and his training has been top of the line. Carr made a small mistake in decision to clear the ball, which cost Birmingham the match but that was one of his bad days and the manager expected Carr to return to first team action
soon.
