Football Update: Premier League news- Chelsea, Everton, Fulham, Liverpool
Chelsea
Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has taunted all the defender facing Chelsea this season, as the side travels to the Eastlands to face Manchester City over the weekend. The side managed to experience their first taste of defeat this season in the Carling
Cup against Newcastle, which led to injuries to forward Salomon Kalou and midfielder Yossi Benayoun and Gael Kakuta. This along with the defeat at Stamford Bridge was the darkest night of the season for the defending Premier league Champions but would be travelling
with the first team to City of Manchester Stadium. Chelsea has been in devastating form this season, having scored 21 goals and maintaining a 100% win record in the premier league and European Championships. Yet, City would provide them with a tougher challenge,
as Chelsea have decimated the softer teams of the English Top flight.
"If I was a defender playing against Chelsea, I would be very scared because you don't know where we're going to come from - we have Ashley Cole bombing forward on the left side all the time. So it is hard to know what to expect when we have all these
players bombing forward all the time. If you look at our front three, none of them have a static position, they are all moving around," claimed midfielder John Obi Mikel.
Everton
Everton manager, David Moyes, has blamed his squad’s lack of inspiration behind their slump in form in the season so far. The side has not won a single contest so far in all competitions, which included the Tuesday night’s crash out of the Carling Cup. Everton
has managed only 2 points thus far in the league from a possible 15 but their loss to league one side Brentford would be their worse defeat of the season. This would be Everton’s worst start to a season in almost 16 years and Moyes have blamed their inability
to finish of chances at the major reason for the slump. The manager explained that in the premier league, the player made a lot of opportunities but failed to put the ball at the back of the net, which was the main reason behind the loss at Brentford. The
manager believed that the side should’ve been three four goals up at Brentford but absolutely wasted all the opportunities. Owing to this and the energy from the home crowd, Brentford capitalized and made them look stupid.
Fulham
Youngster Rafik Halliche's debut with the Cottagers was a day of mixed emotions. The Algerian player was happy to finally make his first appearance for Fulham but was extremely disappointed of what went down against Stoke in the Carling Cup. Fulham lost
against the Potters and the player claimed that although he was delighted to make the came-o appearance but was really disappointed by the result. The player added that he needs to now wait for another opportunity and when that does happen, he will perform
on the highest level.
Liverpool
Club Captain Steven Gerrard has asked club’s senior players to step up their game and help Liverpool out of this difficult phase. Liverpool succumbed to humiliating home defeat to league two side Northampton Town in the Carling Cup, which added to their
miserable start to the season, where they have managed only 5 points from their five league games. Gerrard would be among of the galore of big names who would be returning to face Sunderland and the player stated that all the first team players would have
to perform in order to register a win. Gerrard explained that football was not always about highs and the midfielder has experienced both highs and lows in his career. The important thing to learn from the lows is what went wrong and then try avoiding such
mistakes again in the future.
