Football Update: Premier League news- Everton, Fulham, Liverpool
Everton
Everton full back, Sylvain Distin has stated that the Merseyside club needs to extract the positive side of their 0-0 draw against Fulham on the away fixture. Fulham have been able to maintain their unbeaten streak so far in the season but it was the boys
from Everton who made the most number of opportunities at Craven Cottage. Owing to West Ham United clinching a surprise 1-0 victory over 4th place Tottenham, Everton currently sit at the Bottom of the table and there is trouble at the Merseyside.
However, the evergreen Full back trusts his side to improve and believed that the positives should be taken from the draw with the Cottagers. The player stated that although it’s frustrating that the side wasn’t able to convert chances but still managed
to extract a point. This was Everton’s first clean sheet of the season and the side gets stronger every day in the hope of finding their first win of the season. Distin urged his team mates to stop confusing themselves over what should’ve been done and focus
on the positives, which was managing a clean sheet at a Stadium which doesn’t allow favourable results.
Fulham
Fulham defender, Aaron Hughes has full trust in the summer signings of the club and believes that the new comers can take the club to new heights under the guidance of Mark Hughes. Fulham and Manchester United are the only side remaining who are still unbeaten
in the league so far and have managed one win and 5 draws to sit comfortably on the 7th spot in the premier league table. Newly signed Mexican left back Carlos Salcido was inspirational in Cottager’s draw against Toffees over the weekend and Hughes
also backed Moussa Dembele and Rafik Halliche to be the players to be inspirational for the side.
"Carlos is new to the side and has slotted in really well, which shows the quality of the player. The games he's played in have been tough games - Blackburn away and Stoke away. He looks another really good buy for us, as does Rafik, who played a few
minutes (in the Carling Cup) on Tuesday night and looks really good in training. Obviously Moussa's injured at the moment but everyone's seen what he's produced over the last few weeks,"
claimed the 30 year old Northern Ireland International.
Liverpool
Liverpool seems to be in turmoil this season. With the axe of administration looming dangerously above their heads, many expect star striker Fernando Torres to be finding employment elsewhere. However, Liverpool midfielder Dirk Kuyt still believes that Torres
wants to stay at Anfield and explained that even if when the Spanish is not scoring, he still has the job of providing inspiration. Despite scoring only once so far this season, Torres has been a key component of Liverpool’s four goals. Torres earned the penalty
and the free kick against Manchester United which gave Liverpool the chance to equalize. In addition, it was Torres’s set up that led to Kuyt scoring against Sunderland and was his cross which led Steven Gerrard to find the equalizer at Anfield on Saturday.
Kuyt explained that although everyone expects Torres to find the back of the net often, he adds much more than that. The Dutch said that against Sunderland, it was Torres who was the deciding factor as he set up both the goals.
For Liverpool, Torres is thus very important even if he’s a having a slump in form of goal scoring. The player thus expects his team mate to start adding goals and insisted that Torres’s commitment towards the club has not changed.
